Default new project L98 runs rough till warm.

Hope I can get a couple L98 guys to chime in on this one.
I found a super clean 1989 Trans Am GTA with a 350 TPI.
The car had been sitting at least 2 years from the current owner before he bought it. He's replaced the fuel pump, the 19 lbs injectors, and distributor. And has given up and wants to sell it to me.
I'm not a guru on TPI's.
It will start every time, but stumbles and dies unless you give it throttle. Sometimes that doesn't work and it dies anyway. Once it warms up, it seems to idle but is still rough. I noticed alot of blowby on the driver's side but it cleared up after it started to idle on it's own. There was a heavy gas / overrich condition in the exhaust.
I'm wondering if it's the EGR or O2 sensors or ???
This car looks like a time capsule with all the emissions hardware still intact.
Thanks Guys.

Personally, me and my buddies just started replacing parts till we figured it out. Sucks, i just hrew and intake and carb on my stock 150K mile L98 and went 13.87 at 101 MPH. Never complained till i sprayed enough thru it that it spun a rod bearing, LOL.

Thumbs up

I was thinking Long Tube headers would cure it and rip off all the smog crap while I was at it.

That gets expensive fast and often doesnt solve anything

Figure out why it's running rich and youll have a nice toy. Its a 21 y/o car so lots of parts are suspect. Buy a service manual and go down the list of possibilities
