Auto tranny choices on a 1985 C10 Chevy truck . .
Looking to buy a 1985 Chevy truck . . .
Its all stock, but I'm not sure what tranny it has . . .
Its a 2wd, 1/2 ton, carbed 305, all stock, 27k miles. Its been repainted, not the best job, but man this truck rust free, solid, and mint otherwise. Kind of confused on the tranny though, I thought the 700R4 came out in 1981, but this truck only has D 2 1 on the column shifted auto. So what's the deal here??? Did they still have the th350 in 1985, or is at a th400, its a 1/2 ton model.
Reason I ask is that I heard the early 700R4's have a high failure rate. I plan to use this truck for daily transit. I'll keep her nice since they don't salt the roads in Nashville, but the paint isn't show quality, so why let her just sit, right???? The thing kind of reminds me of my Caddy with a bed on the back, man it drives/rides nice.

I'm sure that wasn't factory, since it was a 1/2 ton.
Well I've decided to look at some newer model trucks. Anything 1976 and newer has to pass emissions around here. I don't want to fool with anything carburated, and I'd have to leave it pretty stock to pass, and you know those 80's era carbed 305's/350's leave a lot to be desired in the hp department.
