Default Big Block Builders

Hi...this may be a tall order, but is it possible to find an engine builder that can build a 500ci BBC to make 700hp on pump gas for under 10,000 that would include intake, carb, and distributor? Maybe even accessories? I know the last question might be pushing it. I've been looking around on the net and all I seem to come up with are wimpy 502ci crate motors making 500hp, which is almost small block territory.

Check out VortecPro (Mark Jones). He makes some killer 496/iron head engines for a very reasonable price. Many guys over on chevelles.com seem to be happy with him.

Abso-freakin-lutely! But it will probably take a solid-roller cam. I've got one of those 502's that started life as a 502HO with only 450hp and now makes over 600hp and revs to 7200rpm using Dart heads, an Erson hydraulic roller cam and upgraded valvetrain. I bought the HO for $5495.00 from Jegs and had the crank balanced and the block taken care of for $2k. The heads and cam cost right around $3K. Since I didn't use the heads at all that came with the HO package, a short-block would be a more cost-effective way to go. BTW-That Jegs price was from '01 and they've gone up a little since then....

500 hp is more like v6 territory, most of our small blocks make 600+ hp on pump gas. it's kinda hard not to make 700hp with a 500+ cid engine. I built some 540 marine engine recently with oem iron heads, no compression and a very small cam and they made 640hp, had to detune them so they wouldn't break the drives.

Here ya go. Take this one off my hands. All NEW Top Shelf stuff, makes good power for a 91 octane safe 10.6:1 with a N20 grind shaft. Turn on the systems and have some fun.

Hey guys, thanks for the good responses. Some of the results are better than I expected.

To give you an update, I am still looking. But I have been talking to a member on here seriously about an aluminum head 496, with some extras, just dyno time making 740hp within the price I'm looking for. But I won't make a final decision until I look at everything out there, so I appreciate the responses and even a couple PMs I received. I have been busy this past week but I should have more freetime to do more looking/calling/responding.

These are the basic requirements:

Must be under $10,000 carb to pan
Must run on pump
Must make 700+hp

The rest such as iron or aluminum head, CI, are all open (of course the more CI the better). I have been really busy the past week working two jobs so all I've had time to do is browse the options you guys have showed me and some looking on eBay. But I am still very open to any ideas so if you think you have something I'd be interested let me know.

Thanks for the info so far!
