U should be good w/ out screw in studs and pushrod guides but it is good to have them and i would go w/ a roller tip rocker and your vacume should be fine.

Another thing you need to check into is that 96-98 vortec heads can only handle ~.450 lift. Since the cam you spec'd is .500 lift you might have to do the valve guide griding mod to those heads.

If I was going to step up the cam I would go a little bigger than what you are going with. Step up to the 280HR, I think you will like it better.

Still wrong cams.
If the Vortec heads are not ported, then the exhaust port NEEDS extra duration. And the intake ports stall above 0.475" lift.
The ZZ4 cam will out perform the Magnum 270. In every way.
Lunati makes a nice 218/226-112 HR cam, with 0.471" intake lift.
Add a set of Comp 26981-16 springs, you won't need to do any machining. You can even try 1.6:1 rockers on the exhaust side.
If you want even more performance, go HF, and use Comp's NX268H13.

Just go a head and throw a xr282hr in there. It made 440 hp in a 350. Go big or go home. It is a roller version of the cam they put in this article.
