Default 85 IROC TPI, no injectors on start up, please help

Whe have confirmed grounded power into the 85 PCM for the injectors. No injector pulse while cranking. We get full & constant voltage from the PCM, to injectors, after starting the engine w/ starting fluid. VSS unit is not w/ car. Is there a tach signal or some signal that the 85 PCM requires from the missing VSS unit that is causing the problem? We have confirmed all other wiring. As noted, engine will run on starting fluid. Please comment.

Also, we tried (2) separate 85 PCM's resulting in the same no injector pulse issue. Am not aware of any VATS associated w/ an 85 PCM.

Checked injector resistance & it's good. Checking ignition switch circuit. Will add VSS module. SES light flashes once w/ key on & then goes out. If ignition switch is OK & VSS has no effect on injector issue, will change ignition control module.

Had the same problem with my 85, and your right, no VATS for these years. I changed my ignition switch and bingo was his name-o. Only started with starting fluid as well. Are you getting voltage to the switch? Coil? Pick up? Etc.. I know these are newbie style questions but gotta cross your T's and dot your I's.

Cool let me know, it's always nice to hear about TPI problems as the gremlins in those cars make for a horror story that would make Stephen King cry. I got many bugs to work out on mine sadly.

It now starts while using the new ICM. However, there is a miss. So, we are going to change the ignition switch next & then look @ the 02 sensor. Something tells me that the ignition switch is a better candidate than the 02 sensor because the replaced ICM worked in the donor car before it was pulled & installed in this car. So, something on this car caused it to fail. Will post again once new ignition switch is installed.

BTW, also through an SES light. We have an OBDI cable & will try to read the code(s), as well.

Your o2 may need replaced but its not your issue. O2s dont provide feedback till like 400 degrees.

Only thing remaining is the ignition switch. Everything else is brand new. Once the ignition switch work is done, we will know.

Ignition switch did not fix. It's as if the computer & distributor are fighting each other for control.

We are scrapping the TPI or (POS) as we've re-named it. Looking for a good working 650 4 barrel carb & aluminum intake manifold if anyone has 'em reasonably priced. We have a carb vacuum advance dist & are making provisions for controlling the transmission.

Yah, it was a matter of not wanting to keep throwing money @ something that may have been un-fixable.
