Default vortec heads with hot cam on gen 1 sbc

i have a 1977 generation 1 350 that is now a 383 stroker.
i want to do the vortec head and lt4 hot cam combo that i have heard so much about but i am wondering if it is possible with my era of engine.
is the cam bores compatible with a hot cam?
is the vortec heads compatible with the 1977 350?
what machining if any will i need to use the vortec heads?
thanx for the help
chase
any other misc information is helpful

That swap is going to cost a chunk of change. You will need retro-fit roller lifters a cam button to hold the cam in. Vortec heads are only good to .450 lift unless you already have them modified.

One more thing, if you don't have a set of vortecs laying around it's not really worth it. I had a set with 275,000 miles that needed to be looked over/cleaned up. With parts and labor it's about $700 to run a cam around the specs of the LT4 HC. If i had to pay for the heads, I wouldn't have used them unless they were in great condition.

Depends on your pistons, don't want to have domes to make 14:1 with those heads...

I don't think you need to worry about machine work - those heads should fit any 350 based block.

That cam would need aftermarket lifters to work - make sure you check out lifter manufacturers to make sure of compatability with a newer style roller cam like the HOT meant for L98/LT motors.

the pistons are kb hyper pistons im looking at 10.5:1 compression.
is there a more economical way to get that kind of power. its a street/strip car so it doesnt have to be to radical just a fast street car.
thanx

It depends what you are trying to do power wise. Scoggin Dickey makes a set of Vortec heads for right around the $700-$800 mark that will work with the LT4 HC.
You have to choose if for a few hundred more you want to go with something like Trick Flows and make more power. I didn't realize my Vortecs were going to get so pricey, like I said I had them laying around. If I knew I'd hit the $700 mark, I'd probably have hunted for a set of used AFRs for about $1,000.
