is this a reasonable deal?(not sure if in the right section)

Well I haven't been in the car scene for quite some time since my ls1 days.(2008?) Anyways i'm starting on a 406 and was looking for some heads
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/2778436379.html is this a reasonable price for vortec heads?

not horrible, but you can buy brand new heads with everything (cut for .550/.500 lift screw in studs) for 350 each. Check SDPC they are a sponser.

It cost me around 500 for cutting the guides for .525 lift, drilling and taping for screw in studs, valve job w/ new exhaust seats, 904's have crappy seats, and a surface clean up.

What are your plans for your 406? If you plan to turn low rpms the vortecs would be a good deal, but they do not seem to flow good on the upper rpms.

The plans are just a mild 406,wont turn over 5400 rpm.I will get vortecs probably no matter what. I just want a good deal. I'm kinda on a low budget so to cut machine work costs would help.

They flow just fine at high rpm's lol. I pull my 355 to 6500rpm. It made power all the way to 6750 on the dyno never really falling off. That was through extreamly restrictive exhaust too.

The 170cc runners will support your 406 just fine to 5400rpm depending on cam selection.

Wont take much cam, try to stay under .500 lift. Vortecs flow best at .450-.500 and start to get turbulent above that.

Something like 210-215* intake and 220-225* exhaust duration. staying right around .500 lift on each. Keep a little wider lobe seperation, the fast burn style chambers like the cylinder pressure. I run 10.2:1 on pump gas.

I think i'll jump on this deal. He won't go lower than 450$ also how can you tell stock springs from the comp springs?Just incase he tries to do the switch-roo on me.

When I saw you were doing a 406 and vortec heads it made me think of this.
