Default drag racing question

I am about to put a 500hp 383 stroker in my 82 single cab s10. I was wanting to know if the set up i have would be good for a 8th or 1/4 mile and what it will maybe run. It has 350 turbo with a 3500 stall and 411 gear

Too many variables. Tire size plays a role in this along with the stall. That stall might be for a milder 350 SBC. What cam is in the motor? If its big enough to turn some good rpm (6800-7200) you will be ok with a 28" tire on the bottle.

Still not enough info. .540 lift tells me nothing. I need to know duration at .050 and the LSA. What does the motor consist of such as heads, compression, solid or hydraulic cam?

In most cases you will be around a 3.73 to a 4.10 gear. Depending if you plan to run all motor or spray it.

So is this a street strip deal? More street or more strip? If more of a street car a converter 3500 to 4K is decent, more strip I'd go 4500 to 5500. I run an 8" 5400 stall on the street and it is manageable. Everyone's tolerance and definition of "streetable" is different.

Are you sure that thing is going to make 500hp? I'd have to see the dyno sheet, but it really is about the sum of the parts. the engine torque range, converter, cars weight, DA where you are running. A 4:11 gear is good for the 1/4 mile with a 26-28" tire.

I have a pretty optimized bracket car, #3600, 500 hp at the flywheel and it has been 10.87, usually 10.90-11.0 in the heat at ~ 1200', with a DA all over the place. You could run that fast, but if I was to throw my bet in a hat I'd say 12.00, maybe 11.50. It really is anyone's guess until you get it to a track near you. Regardless, have fun with it and tell us how it runs.

And at Skip White says it is 470HP. so don't embellish numbers. I'd still want to see the dyno.

Yes that is the same motor my dad is.getting the same motor for a geo.tracker lol. And told him he wanted to be close to 500 hp as possible so he is supposed to be doing something else to it. And he is sending us a dyno.sheet with it . Its supposed to be 485 ft pounds of torque also but ill run it amd see what it runs

That setup, I'd say you'd be closer to 450 at the crank with peak power around 5800-6000. Max torque would probably come in around 3800-4000 so I'd put a 3500 stall in it to keep you just below max torque on launch and right at after the engine recovers.

Look into some 430 gears and a 29-30 inch tire and you should be good for the 1/4. A trans brake would be a must as long as you have the suspension and tire to plant the launch.

Depending on the rear end, I'd say you would be looking at 370 or so at the rear wheels and depending on the weight, you should see 12 flat to mid 11's.

Again, there are still a lot of variables to give an accurate quarter mile time.

That 7.5 isn't going to last long if the truck isn't light. I hope you're running 1/8 mile with that much gear and short of a tire.

It should be ok then. I've noticed though when you go with that deep of a gear in a 7.5 the ring gear gets thin and when you reall put some power to it, it shears off the teeth of the ring gear. Hopefully with it being light you won't have that issue.

Maybe I missed it, is this drag only? If so, might as well go 13:1, bigger cam and lots of converter, and a stronger rearend.

Always easier spending other peoples money...
