Default 84 Foxbody GT 408 swap

Since selling my 92 GT I have wanted another foxbody. My 92 was short lived and I regret letting it go but it led me to bigger and better things in life. I have since acquired a 84 GT about a year ago and have been slowing modifying it between work and family. I put a basic LS engine in it and sold that so I can finally swap my old engine from my 92 into my 84. I guess now its time to get it back on the street.

Few photos for now, will be updating within the next few days with more updates.

Very nice car. Is it an LS based 408?

This is a 1st gen mechanical fuel pump carburetor engine. The actual cubic inch comes out to 407.6 but 408 just sounds better!

The 408 contains lightweight eagle crank and rods, mahle forged pistons, comp cams xs282 camshaft and dart iron eagle platinum heads. The engine was originally built for a modified dirt track class but I swapped the cam and heads for something more street friendly. It ran about 14:1 compression and currently sits at 10.8:1 so I can run pump gas instead of race fuel.

Okay, that sure is nice. I bet that will make nice torque. How many RPM's will it turn?

I have pushed it up to 9000 on a big 3/8 mile dirt track. With the cam I am using now the torque range is between 2400-7000 so I will set my limiter to around 7400 to be safe. It will either get a blown through carb turbo setup down the road or I will just shoot a small shot of nitrous. When I had this thing in my 92 it was way more power than I needed on the street but I want a fun street/strip car to keep up with some of the other foxbody guys in the North Texas Foxbody Club. Some of those guys have some serious rides but all of them hate on chevy swaps.

Who is your friend? He might be in our North Texas group. Our property is just a mile or so from the Kennedale drag strip and dirt track, sad to see Kennedale shut down

My buddies name is Eric, I am not sure, but I dont think he belongs to that group. He works at ATK, they are building my engine. He and I have put together a few cars over the years, we built his car, and are doing mine right now.

New Dynatech headers came in. Scored these for about 40% off because they've been moved around and slid on a shop floor. Literally brand new with a few scuff marks. Also AJE front suspension has already been installed. Using the stock front springs and lower control arms for now, seemed to work well on my 92.
