Default Picked up a SBC

I recently picked up a SBC from a family member in a bind. Probably paid more for it than it is worth $1000 but the things you do for mom. I know it was in a late model dirt track car. Has a holly 2 barrel and may be set up for alcohol, world products sportsman II heads and a street dominator intake. Pulled the valve covers and it looks clean, oil looks good.

I know it had a refresh, installed in the chassis , started and never saw the light of day for 20 years.

No idea on the condition of the shortblock or cam size. I figure I can pull the heads and put them on my 350 in my 68 C10.

Or should I try to save the entire engine and resell or just part of our and attempt to get my money back. I really don't have a use for it.

From what I've seen, unless you have current machine shop invoices and receipts, a complete engine doesn't go for a whole lot, at least not easily/quickly. You'd probably be able to unload the heads, intake, and short block and get your money back though. Or try to find a dirt track guy that needs a spare maybe?

I had a set of World Product head on my 84 Trans-Am 305 58CC Heads. Made a world of difference over the stock heads.

Look up the block numbers. It may be a desirable block casting, or at the least, be a casting someone is looking for to do a period-correct restoration.

Very true, knowing what you have is the best starting point. If you do decide to sell, people will want to know those specifics anyways. They'll want to know 4 bolt mains, over size pistons, cut crank, ARP in it, cam specs, etc etc.

Yeah I looked up the block numbers, it is a 69-79 block (302/350) and could be a 2 bolt or a 4 bolt main. I haven't pulled the pan to find out. I have had a lot of interest in it I have a guy driving down tonight from 3 hours away to look at it.

I'd take it to a dirt swap meet.

The 2 barrel setup is a spec class,, that engine may have a eagle crank in it,, its a pretty common combination,,
If it sat that long the valve springs are junk, and likely the valves need ground may have rust on the rings,
basically its a engine kit needing torn down and cleaned and freshened up.. I would not even turn it over,
pull the heads and pan off and sell the short block at a swap meet ... Good luck!

Keep the motor as a spare motor for your truck. What is the 68 C10 used for ?

SBC is SOLD. Actually made $300 off of it.

C10 is pretty much a cruiser. Out a few times a month, mostly spring and fall since no A/C.
