Question lt1 manegment on an gen 1 small block?? whos done it?

i badly need to convert my hot rod to EFI so i can do forced induction later on, i can get a wrecked lt1 motor with all sensors+ecm intact. My only problem is the optispark thingy, so my question is....

#1) can i somehow install optispark on a gen1 block? or
#2) if i can get a standard distributor from a truck, and adapt make it work in place of the optispark??

anybody??

sorry to use the LT1 PCM system you MUST use at least the optic section of the Opti.

Have you considered using a MegaSquirt setup and building you own intake system?

Here is a link to one of the main sites for MegaSquirt. It contains more links so you can get as much information as you want.

http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

My current project is getting an LT1 but I have an old Holly Projection system that I plan on using with MegaSquirt in another project later on.

I'm working on doing the same thing, a GEN1 with LT1 fuel injection. Got some ideas on the optispark, I'll let ya know when I get it worked out/fabbed up.

The opti is not half as bad as it's reputation just use the LT1 with opti. One tip I give guys that really seems to have made a difference for me and get a lot of "why didn't I think of that" is to take a little of the sparkplug wire grease and put it on the weatherpack connector seal at the top of the opti. That is where it is most vulnerable to water or a leaking WP a little grease seals it right up. My opti has been drenched in the dreaded Dexcool a couple times with no lasting ill effects, the wet plugwires caused an occasional miss but that went away once the leaks were fixed. An LT1 can be made to run a standard distributor you need to keep the opti though it just will no longer distribute the spark. I have heard murmers about adapting the optical wheel that makes an opti an opti to work with an HEI another thought.

2plus2,
The Megasquirt II system can control spark. It's also called Megasquirt and Spark.
Here is the link to the web site:

Correction "MEgasquirtNSpark" is the FIRMWARE you run on the original megasquirt to get it to control spark and fuel. I've built several of the original megasquirt units that are doing both spark and fuel. So yes, he CAN use it and you CAN use megasquirt to trigger from an Opti. There's a 94 M6 Z28 in my garage that, when I get time, will be converted completely to Megasquirt fuel and spark...

Ahh yes, #1 is do-able, and you can take advantage of all of the features of the LT1 PCM instead of using something like a megasquirt.

We don't get much time to work on stuff like this anymore, but it sure is fun!

That's sorta where I'm headed with the opti situation. Except I might just get a delteq or something like it so I dont have to mess with mounting a rotor.

John, build those and they will sell. I do not think the opti is that bad but enough people do that if you can put those together at a reasonable price they will move fast. I think opening up the LT1 managment to gen1 motors would offer a huge market.
