Cool...anxiety is killer. If I had the extra cash for a nice set of aluminum heads, I wouldn't want to wait either. Besides, any head will flow just as good as another with the "great equalizer" - nitrous!

That sounds good! I have heard lots of good things about the AFR's but I HATE the wait time! I have also heard that the AFR's don't flow what they claim. But I have Brodix Track1's on my 383 for the simple fact that when I went to buy some CNCed AFR 210's they told me it would be 6-8 weeks and I went to a friend who happens to be a Brodix dealer and he had some Track1's sitting on a cut-away engine sitting in his showroom and he gave me a NICE deal on them.

Hey,
I'm switching over to 18s this winter too. I'm hoping for a mid 9 on motor, in my S-10.

What size cam will you be running, I'm not totally decided yet, but have been hearing some big #s to match these heads.

I'm using a set of old nascar heads, I had some AFR220s last year and ran in the 10s in total street trim. BTW, the 220s are for sale, they flowed over 3, and would be a killer head on a 406-383. I have a 421 and they just weren't quite enough.

Good Luck with your combo.

hey guys...........i see the two of you are going to be in need of a new cam soon. i have 1 i am going to be pulling out of my 427 sbc that has no more than 3500 nearly all street miles on it. the motor came out of an LS1 Tech members car that was in no way a drag car. just a nice, almost Pro Touring looking, Chevelle. not a problem with it in any way, shape, or form. i'm going to go turbo with the motor and will not have a need for this cam. here are the specs...........

-Billet solid roller cam.
-.658/.683 lift, 256/264 duration at .050, 108 lobe sep.

let me know if you have any interest in it and i'll cut you a deal. just shoot me a pm and i'll get back to you.

later,
Dave

69,
A bit of advice, the cam you mentioned will totally waste the heads you bought. It won't even barely begin to utilize those heads, even with nos.

1Q,

The heads are fully ported, w/2.08 Int-1.6 Ex.valves. They are gasket matched to a 1206.

Right now they have prostock springs & Titanium retainers. with 200 long valves, I also have 100 long valves, for a milder setup, I also have a stud girdle and 15 1.6 rockers, one broke last time out.

I went thru on one port and fixed it using the same epoxy the prostock racers use, I got it from Larry Morgan and have put approx. 60 passes with several hours of street time as well with no problems.

These heads have never been overheated or hurt in anyway.

They flow 303@.700-292@.600-284@.500, ex was like 228 & 235.

I am going to do a compression test, and a leakdown test on the motor, then pull it out of the truck, so I will have them off next week.

$1200.00 w/200 long and Springs. $1050.00 w/100 long and no springs and retainers.

Adam, that really just depends on how much power you want to make, driveability, reliability, and how much money you want to spend. If you want some damn good heads then get a set of AFR 227's with the CNC work from AFR or a set of Dart Pro 1 230cc heads.. Both are under $2,000 and will make good power with a engine that size. If you dont mind the drivability being kinda rough then go with a big solid roller camshaft.. Something like 250-260 duration with a .650-680 lift. Still street friendly but a monster when you step off in it.

It just all depends on what exactly you are wanting to do with the engine..
