Default Building a 454?

I have a 2000 k3500 with what I believe is a vortec 454. My truck is... not in the best shape and ill be lucky to get another few years out of it. However the engine was replaced roughly 30k miles ago and is in great shape. Truck has been in the family 10+ years. Everything is new apart from some of the accessories. When the day comes it goes to the junkyard I'm going to pull that engine out. My question is, what generally would go into building one of these. 1000ish HP. Not a budget build but not overkill money wise either. I've built motorcycle engines before and my father has some experience with fabrication, so I'm not afraid of the work involved. From what little research I've done it sounds not too difficult to get that kind of power out of these engines, but what sort of parts do you have to throw at them to get there?

I believe you would have the 8.1 and Raylar is the only company I know of that does much with the 8.1

Nothing about upgrading it is cheap and I doubt it is worth your investment IMO

There's a guy on Youtube, he used to be on the Truck show on powernation, LT Tollman or something like that.

He is building a high end stroker 8.1. You might want to check out his channel for some info. I believe he is also using parts for Raylar.

Hey. Here’s a neat read about the 454 in the 2000 model 3500 series of engines. The 8.1 is around 496 cubic inches. You need to verify what you really have. If it’s the 7.4L (454), your good to go. Build away. Richard Holdner on YouTube has many videos about building these engines and some of them do end up at 1000hp. If you have the 8.1, sell it and get the 454. Huge difference in parts availability. Here is a picture of my 454 build that is now a 496 cid all forged heavy breather. I hope this helps. Good luck.
