Default Whos Running a BBC and Motor plate in a 4th Gen Gotta a Q?

Ok im looking at running a motorplate with my 468 and im gonna be starting mock up here shortly. Whats the proper way to go about setting it up and welding the brackets in on the inner frame Rails. can I bolt the motor in using the motor mounts on my PA K member and go from there since the motor should sit in the same position. Which brings me to another question can you run a motor plate and use the existing motor mounts on the k member at the same time since it would be that many more mounting points to the chassis.

pics would be much appreciated if possible showing mock up and installation

Thanks guys,
-john

I can double check with my engine tonight, but the engine is offset to the passenger side 1/2". I started with measuring the offset of the factory LT1 in a buddies car. Then I measured how much shorter the TH350 transmission was (the mounting point needed to come forward 2 3/8" as I recall), then I modified the transmission crossmember and bolted the engine and transmission (block and case only to make it lighter) together and the set it in the frame. then I used an engine crane to raise the front of the engine to get the correct angle and then set the side to side. After that I made the frame bracket out of some 2"x2"x1/4" thick angle iron. I used some 1/4" plywood to make a template for the motor-plate and transfered that to the sheet of 1/4" thick T6 aluminum I used to fabricate the motor plate. I did have to change the tilt on the engine because of the intake manifold. I then bolted the engine plate to the engine and clamped the brackets to the motor plate and tacked them to the frame and drilled the holes going through both the engine plate and the brackets at the same time. Then I removed the engine and trans and welded the bracket to the frame. Last I dropped the engine and trans back in, bolted the engine plate to the frame and re-check all of my measurements. Just remember to put your brackets on the back side of the motor plate, or you won't be able to get the engine out.

Bingo! You can buy a big block motorplate for a 4th gen from ThunderRacing.

I have the plates cut to fit the 4th gen cars in stock. They come with the weld on brackets etc. All you have to do is bolt the plates on and weld the tabs on. No cutting required.

Madman, sounds good ill prolly order one here in the very near future.

To save on all the measuring and what not can i simply bolt the motor in using the the motor mounts on my PA kmember which should be here soon, and just mount the brackets where the plate lines up and then jus remove the motor mounts?

With my plates you dont have to measure. I set the trans on the crossmember bolt my front plates on. Then where it sits on the frame I grind the paint and weld out the tabs.

If you have a motor plate you wont need the motor mounts.

Madman wat's the price for a set of these? If the price is good maybe I'll just go this route instead of going thru the time of making my own
