will a 403 olds motor fit into a 1980 chevy?
Please Help. I can't find anyone that know.
I was given a 403 oldsmoblie motor and I was wondering if every thing would bolt up to a 1980 chevy truck with 350 motor mounts and transmission?

Tranny will hook up if it's an auto. Not sure on the mounts. I know all Olds use the same mounts for 350 up to 455, but don't know if they are the same as Chevy 350 mounts. Why not just get an engine hoist and find out? Does your truck have a motor in it already? If it does, the Chevy 350 would be better than the Olds 403 dollar for dollar. 403's are great but only if you stud and girdle the bottom end to take the abuse.

You could always get a bell-housing adaptor, I would get some motor mounts out of an 80's rear wheel drive cutlass with a 307 or a 260 v-8. Exhaust should be ok with stock single exhaust, or easier with headers (also from 80's cutlass with v-8) and duals, unless it's a 4-wheel-drive. If it is 4-wheel drive, take it with just the manifolds on it to an exhaust shop to finish it. Also use the radiator hoses from the same year cutlass. Everyting else except for the reverse mounting of your battery and starter, you will have to extend and shorten the main wires to your harness where neccessary. Good luck, Mike

Just use motor mounts and frame adapters from a chevy truck with a 350 olds diesel, there should still be some in the junkyard if you look hard enuf. As for the trans you will need a B P O bellhousing for a manual or for a auto any trans shop can change your trans case for a B P O case. Stan

403's were low compression and shorter stroke. Plus, olds heads just don't flow very well. If you are looking to this for performance reasons, I say pass. If you just gotta get this truck going, I'm sure you can make it work.
If you are looking for performance, 383's are getting cheaper to build all the time. A chevy will always run better than an olds for the same price.
