please help
ok the 383 is up and running.but i can't get it to stay running.i have to hold it about half throttle to keep it goin and if i let off it dies or if i try and give it more gas it won't do ne thing..i have to hold it at half throttle for it to do ne thing..whats the deal? what fuel pressure should i be running for a 11:1 comp motor? it just wont keep running no matter what i do..i've tried movin the distributor around and i've even put new plugs in it.what else is there to do or what can a try?

Fuel pressure for an edelbrock needs to be low like 4 or 5 psi. Fuel pressure and compression don't have much to do with each other. What you need to be concerned with is fuel volume vs power output. But thats not an issue with your current problem.
You can look down the carb with it running, if you see lots of fuel dumping in you have problems, also check the metering rod movement.
It does sound like a vacuum leak, I had one do that.
I also had the same thing and it was the rockers turned down too tight.
Could also be the timing chain set wrong, seen a pic of someones multi keyway set on another board and he argued that it was correct but it wasn't, he later realized it was wrong. He also said he ran it a whole year like that, it was near 10 degrees retarded.
