my 383 vs 350 crate

i was looking at building up my 355 to a 383 with a few other goodies... then i looked at CSB crate motors. I was wondering if someone could help me out and estimate how much hp i will be making with my 383 so i can compare it to a crate. i can get a crate 350 with 350 hp for $5,176 or 375 hp for $5,328.

My 87 GTA 350 motor (stock with 225 hp)
- Eagle Rotator Kit for 383
- bored .30 over
- brodix ik 180 heads
- comp xtreme energy hydraulic roller cam (around 230 duration and 530 lift)
- comp roller lifters
- comp Pro magnum roller rockers- 1.6 ratio
- torque converter ~2500 stall
- edelbrock shorty headers
- 3" flowmaster exhaust
- 10.3:1 comp ratio

- the 383 set up will cost me around $5,400 (including the rebuild) and I need to find out what kind of hp that will get me.

- the crate will give me 350 hp for around $5,200.

I REALLY appriciate the help!

Minimum you should make 430 hp, but prolly a little more, if you bumped up the cam and heads you would see closer to 500.

that would be sweet if i could go all out with the cam and heads... and everything else, but im on a budget and will be plenty happy with even a little under 400 hp, considering i was at 265 hp the last time i drove it! plus i have a stock 700r4 with around 95K. thatnks a lot for your input!

i do have stock tpi intake though... does that make a difference in your 430 hp estimate?

Oh yea, nock 100 HP off that...literally. That intake is SERIOUSLY restrictive, get a mini ram or a super ram.

Hi, I am running that same combo except with afr 195 and 1.5 rockers and it dynoed at 532 hp but with a carb. i also have a superram manifold for sale no injectors of throttle body if interested we can talk.

Hey brian, it's Jesse. If I were you i would go with the 383 build and then save for the mini or super ram intake. I think you would be happier with the 383. It will be a torque monster. My buddies 383 is a fun and wicked street car. Do it!

yea i am going to go with the 383. the last thing i have to do is decide what heads i want. im lookin at the brodox ik180's and the dart pro 1 platinums. the only problem is both have straight angle spark plugs and im not sure if i can go with straight angle with my shorties.

another thing is i want to get my tranny rebuilt because i dont want to do nothing to it, then break it, then have to buy a new one.
