I am building a drag camaro to play with
I am useing my motor out of my dirt track car so I only need 2 pick the perfect cam
My motor is a 355 4 bolt main
With 12 to 1 comp
Flat top pistons
Single plane highrise intake
I want to go with a solid flat tappet camshaft but am haveing trouble picking one out
I want to redline at about 7200 rpm
I have 3.73 gears full posi and a set of 4.11 gears I will be running a th350 with shift kit
It is going in a 1987 iroc z-28
I am thinking about a comp cam xtreme energy 282 it has 520/540 lift
What do yall think also what stall converter should I run and with what cam

It has a 750 dbl pumper carb with mech. Secondaries
The cam is a 520/540 lift with 282/290 adv duration and 110 lobe seperation

go with Lunati Lun-40136 but you didnt mention about the heads

The heads are 305 heads cast iron little port and polish milled
1.94in 1.60 exh
Block was decked
I have 12 to 1 compression

what was ur time with this set up? and yeah you need to change the heads to run high lift cams

The motor came out of my dirt track stock car it had a 500 lift cam in it with no problems.
Why should I change my heads they have screw in studs and pushrod guides already and they where milled to fit my block perfect

then there is no problem running a high lift cam on it,did you saw the Lunati's?

The problem with the 305 heads is that they can only support about 3800 rpm effectively on a 350 motor. That is even with port work being done to them. You would be better off having less compression but having a 350 based cylinder head with a larger intake runner. I am not saying that you can't turn more than 3800 rpm with the 305 heads, I'm just saying it is all the rpm they can effectively support. I've had several circle track guy's make the switch here locally and watch there cars drive around the competition. I no longer need a sign outside my machine shop/Speedshop(I actually took it down), I'm already month's behind on catching up on work for this race season.
