Default Mechanical roller cam in 86 and later O.E. roller block?

I noticed that the Comp Cams catalog does not list any mechanical roller cams for the 1986 and later SBC factory roller blocks. Can you run a mechanical roller cam in these blocks that came from the factory with a hydraulic roller? I like the idea of the cam thrust plate and not having to mess with a cam button.

Special order, Comp will grind what ever you need. You just pick the core you want and go form there, the bolt circle on the factory hyd roller cams is smaller to make room for the plate and extra material thats removed from the snout. You can however use just about any off the shelf mech roller camshaft provided you use the button and ditch the thrust plate. It will work just as if it were in an early block.....

It's actually no different than putting a solid roller into any other gen1 small block, just use the button and ditch the thrust plate like mroverkill said. As far as lifters go you can run lighter lifters that dont use tie bars if you retain the factory dogbone and spider. In fact crane sells these: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...6&autoview=sku
