Buying a BBC Crate Motor... HELP!!
I'm about to purchase a new short block BBC crate engine for my 1970 GTO but have never really done much research on the topic and want to make a good decision. Anyone have any suggestions or prior knowledge with buying a BBC short block that they would be willing to share? Thanks a lot guys, excited to get involved in this forum.

Well w/ the gas prices you can prolly get a stock 454 pull out for a few hundred bucks... I just picked one up for 300 intake to oil pan and it runs great. if you can get a pull out and build the bottom end (or not) you can spend about 3k and have a NASTY bitch!!

i am just looking for a short block b/c i already have a nice set of heads, edelbrock air gap intake and 750 holley carb. I think im going to go with a motor from a major distributor so that i can trust it and be confident in the quality of the motor. Anyone have any experience with BluePrint Engines? Looking at their 496 short block for 3,700.

You can buy a lower priced 4340 rotating assembly for 1,500 and get a used block and get it machined and assembled for well under 3,700. It'll be good for 800-1000 hp no problem.
Look at speedomotive.com they have some affordable kits. I used one for a less expensive build and ran it for 3 years running a 250 shot on it and never had an issue.
