Yeah..........anyone ever found out if plain cloth officers in a unmarked car can pull you over or not? I'd rather some hardcore proof rather then, "I talked to friend who knows a cop and he said no". I know we have some police officers on this site in the N.O. area, where can we find this info out at?

cops drive crown victorias and ford tarus that are unmarked. i know that state police has camaros, but they are marked. it probably was a guy messing with you. i never seen or herd of any law enforcement agency driving celicas that are unmarked.

They have more then just those cars. I've seen unmarked Tahoes, Toyota Sequoias, I saw a Jeffersion Parish cop in an unmarked Altima. Kenner has a few different unmarked cars too. I drive all over everyday almost and i've seen every car/truck ive mentioned with someone pulled over and actully, every time the officer was in uniform but, detectives drive unmarked units and they dont wear a uniform.

Here would be a good place to ask LEOs from Louisiana. There are plenty of them on this board.

What I stated earlier is the law in Louisiana.
In Louisiana if an unmarked unit attempts a traffic stop, he/she has to be in a Class "A" uniform.
An officer CAN stop you in a marked unit in plain clothes.
The whole narc officer thing, even though he/she is in an unmarked unit, if he/she is not in Class "A" uniform, they can not legally make a traffic stop.
I do not have the Louisiana statute handy, but I will get it.

I just talked to a buddy of mine that is a state trooper and asked him about all of this and he stated that an unmarked unit can only stop you if you stop. He says that you can keep on going if an unmarked unit tries to stop you but he recommends for you to go to the nearest station or a well lit area if you do stop. He also said a marked unit is the only car you should stop for.
