ok i have a 97 camaro ss and when i bought it came with borla exhaust im kinda getting tired of the sound and i want to switch to a different exhaust.the car came from SLP with the two out the left style exhaust( ive never herd that style)i was wondering if any one knew how it sounds or what i should go with. thanks

exhaust

try google slptv or slp.com then slptv they have a video of the 96 SS with that exhaust but imo borla is much better. is yours the adj cat back if so change your flange plate at least it will be a change! i love the sound of mine especialy going under an overpass and cracking the throttle reminds you just how good it sounds.i just got mine out of storage after 5 months so it really sounds good to me.

ok when i change the flange which way is it spose to go like pointing to the front or back of the car.

FastB 04-16-2009 12:36 PM

if your car came with two exhaust tips out the left side then it was most likely a loudmouth that came on it. My friend had a 96 SS and his was the same, two pipes out the left side and loudmouth. all original.

a 2OTL exhaust setup just sold in the For Sale section

rob69zombie 04-20-2009 07:38 PM

A 2OTL set up is NOT anything like a loudmouth. The loudmouth wasn't even invented in '97. I have one on my 97. Sounds pretty good with my longtubes. It is a stainless muffler that has one 3" inlet on the passenger side and two 2.5" pipes that come off of the driver side of the muffler.

69camaross 04-22-2009 05:46 PM

As mentioned a Loud Mouth is NOT a "Two on the left" or "TOTL." The TOTL was made by SLP from around 1990 through early early 00's. They replaced with with Loud Mouth which was a big mistake as the TOTL has been proven time and time again to be the best performing cat-back for a 4th gen by far. Not to mention in my opinion the best sounding on a L98 or LT1.

You will have a hard time finding one that isn't priced higher than a brand new Borla or GMMG.

rob69zombie 04-23-2009 09:20 PM

Mine is on the car I'm selling.

Rob 04-24-2009 05:53 AM

The 2OTL is the best sounding catback, IMHO. About 10 years or so ago, I merged a Borla and SLP. Used the Borla intermediate and over the axle pipe into the SLP muffler and tips. The passenger side was made out of the old SLP intermediate and used the passenger side tip from the quad tipped SLP exhaust.

I have the best of both, great sound from the 2OTL and adjustable from the Borla. From the back in looks just like a quad tip SLP.

In 1997, you had three exhausts on the SS . . .

One on the left . .

Two on the left . . . (was a NICE system! )

Or the Dual - Dual performance exhaust with resonators directly behind the tips (my 97 has this exhaust) . . .

Sorry friend but that's incorrect.

96-97 SS without the exhaust option (300hp car) came with the standard Z28 muffler and dual rectangle tips

96-97 SS with the SLP optional exhaust (310hp car) came with the only catback SLP made at the time, the Two on the left.

**Note some 97s came with a silencer cone in the muffler connection to quiet down the SLP TOTL.

98 SS with the optional SLP exhaust came with the Two on the left system only they changed it to only be ONE pipe coming off the left side of the muffler and exiting out the left rear of the bumper. It had a ricer looking coffee can tip.

The SLP dual dual did not become an option on the SS or Firehawk until 1999. It was a regular style cross flow muffler with dual tips on either side.

Note the SLP Dual - Dual performance exhaust Very Rare for 1997 1/2. The SLP tail pipes with resonators were developed for the 1997 1/2 Camaro SS program. These would have been installed on the SS Camaro's equipped with SLP's Powerflo exhaust for that year. I have a set new and unused in the SLP box, I will conceder selling them PM me. Here is what they look like:

WELL SORRY SIR YOU ARE WRONG!!! . . . .

I own a 1997 SS 100% all original with the Dual Dual exhaust. So until you know EVERYTHING stop contradicting me.

I take EXTREME pride and DO a LOT of research before I state something on the internet.

Therefore I stand by what I said. There were THREE exhausts available in 1997. I am not talking about ANY OTHER YEARS!

1997 2OTL:

1997 Dual Dual: (Bad pic - but you can see BOTH tail pipes )

On the window sticker too:

Still looking for the one on the left . .

LT4 car is a totally different animal. Cannot be used in the same discussion as a regular production 97 LT1 SS.

However yu are correct regarding the Resonator setup as I forgot they were used on a VERY small percentage of late LT1 powered 97s but discontinued and SLP went back to the TOTL.

Dual Dual reference is more commonly used by SLP to refer to the name of the late 98 into 99+ SLP cross flow exhaust with 4 tips. Hence the name dual dual.

It was not a Coffee can, it was a 3.5" rolled single outlet tip. The muffler is totally different than the 2OTL muffler. My 2OTL may be going into storage and my stock 98 1 OTL going back on, so Rice that Nickey faker. :D

Where is the factory installed 2OTL on a 98 proof? Never heard that one. But what do I know about 98's.

Also, where is the proof that 97's had a 1 OTL? It is a 98 only until they released the dual/dual mid year as an SLP option.

You're right it was a 1OTL. Why they did that I have no idea. But it is a ricer tip there's no way around it! :jest: I never said 97s had this, it's a 98 only thing. I remember only seeing it early in the model year on SS.

PS, you need Fred Gibb emblems on your car, hell you only live 20 minutes away from his old dealership!

JGKadell 08-16-2009 01:06 PM

1 OTL rocks and sounds good. If anyone has any laying around, I will take it off your hands.
