Barn Find (Texas) Literally... Found me a 96 Z28 1LE... It has been sitting for 17 yrs ( started, ran every now and then),, Fired her up, Filled it with 93 octane and drove it about 5 miles.. Last time it was registered was 2002. 1 Owner, 28K miles. Son inherited from his mother when she died recently. Picking it up on Thursday, Gave my deposit today. She'll need a little TLC to bring her back to life. In my research I found that only 55 1LE's were built in 96... Only 3 were Bright Teal Metallic. Its a pretty sweet car. I'll have the weekend to begin the journey. A few pics from today. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...437828a54b.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...e5fe143175.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...bd500c7c00.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...f759185412.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...81efaf964.jpeg |

Very cool and rare car......Not something you run across everyday......Have been keeping an eye out for 20 years....(Besides mine) Have never seen another one in person...Camaro or Firebird...... |
So you're saying there was an A4 1LE??? Never heard of such. I'll take 3 in M6... ;) there is about 2in of dust on this thing. I'll have it home Thursday. Will probably stay home from work and begin cleaning on Friday and over the weekend. She needs alot to bring her back to life. Thanks for the feedback. |
So you have one as well...? Post a pic... Good stuff. |
Special ordered mine new in 1997....all the publications I've read say there were 14 made....But according to Comp nine and the PHS (Pontiac historical society) there were actually 28 produced (11 were red) https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...dc1da8eff3.jpg ...The way it was put to me is 14 were actually titled and the rest went straight to the track....??? Car is 99.99% original and unmolested....When the weather dries out will pull it out of the garage and take some updated detailed pics...... |
Very cool.... I used to own a 97 WS6... Loved it. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...732254aeee.jpg |
Almost bought a WS6 Trans Am....But I really hate power windows..Only way to get one without them was to order a Formula 1LE ....(Also required WS6) At the time Ram Air TAs were going for 30 grand...With everything deleted and the 1LE specific components added....Knocked 5 grand off the price....Had 2 miles on it the day I took delivery in June 1997... |
How cool Is that... Well, almost as cool. I am the second owner of this Z28 1LE... ;) |

That a Torrid Red GTO in the background of the WS6 picture. The Z28 looks like it is very nice condition for the age. Congrats although I am not a huge fan of the LT1Z cars I can appreciate someone who is going to take good care of a rare optioned LT1. Still hope someone picked up the BT SS to restore I hate to see it parted. |

Yes. Unlike Firebird 1LEs, you could get a Camaro 1LE w/ the A4 trans from '94-'99. |

This is not your typical LT1Z... M6, hard top, 342's, light, Koni's, stiffer springs, bigger sways, Stay tuned, i'll post a progress thread at some point. Thanks for the kind words. |

That is a very clean looking car, I really like that color. You do not see many LT1 F-Bodies preserved like this. Any plans? |

Things i know i need to do... replace the temp gauge on the WP... fans were not coming on.. tested yesterday by removing plug, fan game on... Also throwing a P0400 ( EGR valve) will be replacing that as well. Other than that, changed the oil, filter.. This thing has ZERO leaks underneath, ZERO rust, It was purchased new here in TX ( Round Rock). Those are my plans for now. About to post a pic of where some critter lived for awhile when it was stored... This was behind the front bumper. CRAZY!!! |
|
If I remember correctly..Seems like like there was a recall or TSB on the EGR issue back in 1998 or 1999....Might be worth checking into..... |
Hmmmm. mine is a 96 though...? I bought a new one today. Going to install later this week. |
