1994 Firehawk or 1996 Comp T/A
 

Hey everybody, I’m new to the forum so I hope I’m posting in the right place. I’m looking to buy either a Firehawk or the Comp T/A. I’ve got three to choose from and I like them all so I was just looking for some opinions that I might not have thought of. First is a 1994 Firehawk that has been modified. It has the Lingenfelter swap and a lot of other mods. The Lingenfelter seems really unique to me. Cheapest of the three. Second is a stock 18,000 mile 02 6 speed Firehawk. Middle one as far as price. Third and most expensive is another stock low mileage, 24,000, Comp T/A. I really like the rarity of that but it’s an auto and the fact it not a 6 speed turns me off a little. All opinions appreciated. Thanks

well, are you looking to preserve the car as original or rape it? If you want to rape it buy one that's already been raped.. if not, buy an original, unmolested and leave it as is.

+1 to this....im sure the price your paying for those low mileage vehicles youd be pretty happy with something modified for a bit less. All depends on your plans...everyone wants to go faster at some point

That’s what I’m trying to decide. If I I buy one of the original low mileage ones I definitely won’t change anything. The 94 has already be modified quite a bit. Like I said, it’s got a Lingenfelter 383 stroker in it. It’s about $14k less then the Comp T/A. You guys see any real value having that done to it? Even though it’s been modified it seems to me that that’s a pretty rare combo of a real production numbered Firehawk with a legendary name tuned engine. Everything I’ve read about Lingenfelter has been great.

to me there is absolutely no added value in a modified firehawk, probably less value. modifications like the 94 from a different performance company kinda takes away it's specialness . that's my opinion. personally I am now older and prefer to preserve them, not kill them.. but in the end Its your car and you can do whatever you want to it.

I think you just want the name on the door. if true, buy a regular trans am and do what you want

this is coming from the guy who had his 95'/584's motor bored and stroked to 385cu.inches and force fed it with a pissed off rear mount turbo. if I happen to do anything with 10th#001 it will be all motor heads, cam, exhaust and tune after it breaks 80k miles.. (30k more to go)

Not at all about just wanting the name on the door. I own a almost all original 65 Tri-Power GTO. Only thing that isn’t original is the engine. I happed to track down a period correct block so I can get it to as close as original as possible, so I’m with you on originality and preserving them. I’m just wondering at what point even an all original high mileage Firehawk loses some of its mystique. I agree that the all original ones with low miles will alway be in demand. However, I do plan on driving mine some and I’m just wondering at what point does a modified one have a little more of a “wow” factor I guess.

Wow, you have 001 of the 10th anniversary? That’s pretty cool. I just missed buying a 10th anniversary one 2 days ago. Waited a week to decide and when I called back he had a guy coming out the next day...so here I am.

I agree. I’m really leaning towards the 02. It low mileage, all original and it’s a six speed instead of auto. Good talking with ya.

What are you looking for? A weekend toy, something to drive every day, something original that you will keep that way, or something to modify?

Car shows, and some nice weekend cruises.Maybe 1000-1500 miles a year. If I buy an all original one that’s the way it will stay. Modified one seems like it would be fun though.

I'd also pick the 02 Firehawk... in fact I did. :drive:

The stock 02 firehawk will probably the best bet to keep its value. They are always great at shows, and won't be a potential source of headaches like a mod'd one. A LT1 firehawk isn't going to draw as much attention an LS bird, and you are already are down on the auto. It seems the choice is the 02 firehawk.
