The ad says it has an AT, but in the photos you can clearly see the M6 shifter. That's good, because my records indicate that all 100 '97 LT4 SSs were hardtop 30ths w/ M6, which is what this appears to be. Is the "Grand Sport" on the throttle body the giveaway that this is an LT4?

I didn't check out the link yet, my computer is very slow today.
That's correct about the trans type, there were no automatic LT4 cars from the factory for either F or Y body.
But I thought the build total for LT4 SS was slightly over 100 (100 US units, and a few for Canada?) Perhaps I am mistaken, I haven't looked this up in a long time.
True LT4 status really requires some sort of documentation to confirm. The SPID will still show that it's an "LT1" as will the VIN. Certain codes would obviously have to be present as a prerequisite, but nothing that 100% confirms/indicates LT4 status for certain. Or at least that's what I remember being the case when I researched this many, many years ago.

There were also 2 prototype LT4s built that are not included in the 100 + 6. I'd have to dig deep in my files to find the source of this info, its been a few years.

Wow. I was searching for a Firehawk 2004 and 2005, primarily focusing on LS1 variants. I missed what I believe was 1997 LT4 Hawk build # 10 or 12 (of 29) at a dealership in St Clair Shores, MI (N of Detroit). If my records are correct, it had 7855 miles and sold for $20995. Never got to look at it in person, though. Talked to the salesperson after the sale was already done.

I had the rare privilege of seeing one of the handful of original LT4 Firehawks at a Buick/Pontiac show hosted by a local dealer back in the late '90s. I believe it was late August of '98, which was now 20 years ago. Hard to imagine, but at that time the car was still so new that it was under factory warranty! I've not seen another LT4 Firehawk in person since that time.
I agree with @Cahill93Z28 above; it's hard to image that any other "factory" 4th gens will be more collectible than top tier examples of these super rare LT4 cars. They are truly special, and as far as power/performance they are pretty much on par with an LS1 example anyway.

Not only are they great motors, an article I read had the LT4 underrated, from what they said the LT4's are closer to 350BHP.
If you want an LT4 they can be had in a C4 for cheap, (not the Grand Sport) but they are getting harder to come by.
In fact its been years since I looked for a C4 LT4 6 Speed, not sure about their value and availability now.

The LT4 option if I was mostly a "top end" package for an LT1 (i.e. I think there may have been a different crank as well). I remember a few cars one specifically on here in which a dealership installed LT4 kit was installed. If I remember right I am pretty sure that the entire LT4 conversion kit was available for purchase as aftermarket.
This being said although I am still not a firm believer in significant appreciation of these cars but if it does happen I whole heartedly think that of the 4th gens from 1993 to 2000 the LT4 cars will be the most valuable (i.e. this even over LS1 firehawks). The LT1 was no slouch of a motor and I think as time goes on people start to realize that the difference between platforms was not as significant as people make it out to be. As one who constantly downplays the market of the LT1 (i.e. more specifically specialty models such as SS and WS6). I am willing to admit a slight uptick in overall market interest and prices. The cars I have been seeing come up in decent shape sell really quick and for more than they were 5 years ago.
I personally struggle with thought that nostalgia will drive the prices 90 and 00's cars anywhere near MSRP in that I can't imagine someone paying more for a 1997 Camaro SS LT4 then a newer ZL1 Camaro but hey I may be wrong. This being said if that is the case I can see these LT4 cars being well up there maybe even comparable with Cobra R's or other 90's models similar.
