Hardtop SS's, rare or not? I heard that my car may be even more rare with its hardtop, if so how many where made and in what other colors. Thanks. |

I've only seen two in my time. But then again, i really don't go looking at all the tops on camaros. Im not sure if you would call it rare, but there are definitely not that many of them. |
I have got a 2000 SS Black Hardtop A4 here in Oklahoma, and I have not seen another one around here either. |
I have two friends with hard top SS Camaros. |
If its not a t-top then I would think its rare. I dont think Ive seen too many of them. But I do see more t-tops than verts around here. This will help you: http://f-bodyhideout.com/build_counts/2000.htm |
I have a red 2001 SS hardtop... people always tell me its rare |
01 SS hardtop but mines M6  |
2 out of my 3 are hardtops so I guess that makes them not rare! Actually most people seem to want t-tops rather than a hardtop so they are rarer. Maybe one day we will get the 'SLP SS numbers by option' then we will know for sure. But I'm sure Hell will have frozen over by that time. |
My 2000 is a H/T. |
99 ht here |
They made mostly t-top cars in the higher trim levels (SS, Z28), but most V6 cars are hardtops. They aren't really "rare", just less of them were built. When these cars become collectibles in 20 years, the t-top cars will be worth more. Typically the more options a car has, the more desirable it will become. |

I feel the hardtop cars are more performance oriented. Less flex and a little less weight. I also associate t-tops with the (probably outdated) image of leakage and big-haired 40-year old divorcee's pulling out of their trailer park. :jest: Plus, I'm lazy so I rarely take my T-tops off. 3/5 of our Camaros are hardtops. It would be fine with me if they were all hardtops. |
I like that term "pimp top!" I'll have to use that sometime. :jest: I'd honestly rather have pimp tops, I've got a '94 Formula w/130k miles and the pimp tops aren't leaking yet. I've never had subframes on that car eigther. The Firehawk has had heavy boxed sub-frames (SLP) since day one so I'm not worried about those at all. I like to see up through the glass and take them off for the f-body cruises. :pimp: |
I'm definitely a hard top fan. Mine are fully optioned and I believe the hard tops may be more valuable than the "girly, pimpy" t-tops. Of course we are going to have to wait a long time to find out. :engarde:  |

you must admit a hardtop gives it a better look, i like mine a lot and some reason it leaks in when washing on the passenger side i dont understand |
as many have said....not RARE...just less common!! |
Yeah, harder to find, less of them but not rare. C'mon gentlemen let's call a spade a spade, t-tops are girly stuff. No true race car has t-tops. But then again on a hot day Tony Stewart might tell his crew, "Hell, it's hot in Daytona today. Let's run with the t-tops off and the A/C on Max!" bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa..... |
Why's it gotta be a race car? Can't it just be a "fun to rip up and down the street and enjoy" car? T-tops are not "girly stuff", personally I like them quite a bit. You'll note that I do also own a hard top car, and I use it for racing... but when I'm out cruising and just enjoying the car, I love seeing the sun/moon through the roof when they're on, and I love taking them out when it's warm enough to do so. I kinda missed that when I just had a hardtop car. |
