IMO it's not worth buying a separate tuner, but if you need a new head unit then it might be worth considering ones with HDR built in.

Usually that means you still need to buy that company's separate tuner box to actually receive HD Radio.

Yep, and MSRP on those boxes is usually about $200. Very not worth it in my opinion.

Just get Sirius or XM. They have satellite ready radios that need a seperate tuner. The tuner is only at most 75bucks. You pay monthly, but its worth the $$.

Agreed - not really worth it, but if you have the money, why not. Check coverage in your area. Seems like HD radio people are pushing HD radio a lot lately -- I hear ads for it multiple times daily now, so who knows what it could grow into.

Cds are definatly not free. I personally hate having to download music, shuffle through songs, etc.. SiriusXM is unedited and they play good stuff. Not to mention the Football, Baseball, howard stern, etc... I love it. Cant get that stuff on HD.

You cant get live sports on a CD.

I have a nice HD radio from JVC right now that has the HD tuner built in, aux input, USB and full speed iPod controls all in one for under $200.00. It also has 5volt preamp outs and will change to any color you want so it will match any interior illumination. I've been waiting to get them back in stock and they are now. Good unit for the money with great the multimedia options, here's a link to pictures, it's the one at the bottom (KD-AHD59):
