Default How to disable the lights flashing when car is locked/unlocked?

Hey guys-

I think I remember reading there was a way to disable the lights from flashing when the car was locked/unlocked via the keyfob..

I am going to be throwing some HID's into the car and keep hearing they don't like the on/off flash action..

So I thought I'd disable them..

Thanks

Jeff

It's in the owners manual.
Owner's Manuals

Entering Programming Mode
To program any feature, your vehicle must be in the
programming mode. Follow these steps:
1. Put your key in the ignition.
2. Turn the ignition to RUN to disarm the content
theft-deterrent/alarm system.
3. Turn the ignition to OFF.
4. Remove the RADIO fuse. This fuse is in the main
fuse block, located on the left side of your
instrument panel. See “Fuses and Circuit Breakers”
in the Index.
5. Turn the ignition toward you to ACCESSORY.
6. Count the number of chimes you hear. You will
hear one or two chimes depending on the features
your vehicle is equipped with. Refer to the chart
shown previously.
You can now program your choices.

Remote Keyless Entry Verification
This feature provides feedback when the vehicle
receives a command from the remote keyless
entry transmitter.
Programmable Modes
Mode 1: All Off (The headlamps will not flash and the
horn will not sound to provide you feedback that a
lock/unlock command has been received by the remote
keyless entry transmitter.)
Mode 2: Horn and Lamps/Lamps (Your horn will
sound briefly and your parking lamps will flash when
you press LOCK on the remote keyless entry
transmitter. Only your parking lamps will flash when
you press UNLOCK.)
Mode 3: Horn and Lamps (Your horn will sound briefly
and your parking lamps will flash every time you push
LOCK or UNLOCK.)
Mode 4: Lamps (Your parking lamps will flash every
time you press LOCK or UNLOCK.)
Mode 5: Lamps/Horn and Lamps/Lamps (Your lamps
will flash upon the first press on LOCK, your lamps
will flash and your horn will sound upon the second
press on LOCK and your lamps will flash upon any
press on UNLOCK.)

Before your vehicle was shipped from the factory, it was
programmed in Mode 3. The mode to which the vehicle
has been programmed may have been changed since it
left the factory. To determine the mode to which your
vehicle is programmed or to program your vehicle to a
different mode, do the following:
1. Press the LOCK button on the remote keyless
entry transmitter.
2. Count the number of chimes you hear. The number
of chimes tells you which mode your vehicle is set
for. (If you do not wish to change the current mode,
you can either exit the programming mode by
following the instructions later in this section or
program the next feature available on your vehicle.)
3. Press the LOCK button again on the remote
keyless entry transmitter until you hear the number
of chimes that corresponds to the mode selection
you want.
The mode you selected is now set. You can either exit
the programming mode by following the instructions
later in this section or program the next feature available
on your vehicle.

Probably because the headlights don't flash for entry/exit confirmation. Only the parking lights (and the fog lights if the switch is left on) flash when locking/unlocking. If you're only talking about changing the headlights then you don't have to worry about the flashing.

Actually one of the lights of my fogs burnt out recently. Less than one year use. Could it have been because they'd flash on arm/disarm?

I doubt it. I had to replace both fog light bulbs about four years ago but they've been fine ever since despite flashing whenever I lock/unlock the car.

Camaro fogs SUCK...they get water in them all the time...are the Bird fogs better about that? I tossed my stockers in the trash and put in Hella Micro DE's...have had much better luck with them. Prior to that, it was one or 2 new bulbs every couple months with the stock lights.

If the foglights and highbeams mod is done properly, it has no effect on the function of the foglight switch - check your wiring.

Hmm.. Unless there is a new mod, the wiring was pretty simple.. A simple jumper wire in the fuse box..

I'll have to see if I can find a different mod.. I'd like to be able to turn them on/off...

The proper way to make the foglights work with the highbeams is to provide a constant ground to the foglight relay in junction box #1 under the hood. The factory wiring has the foglight relay grounding through the highbeam circuit so that there is no ground available when the highbeams are on causing the relay to shut off. Cut the light green wire at the relay and run the relay end to a good ground on the body someplace near the junction box (you will have to extend the wire length). Tape up the other cut end to prevent shorting. Now the fog lights will work anytime they have power (parking lights, lowbeams, or highbeams are on) and the dash switch will work normally.

NOTE: That applies to Firebirds only. The same mod works for Camaros but the indicator light on the dash switch won't work without additional work.

Yeh, that mod was discovered it appears after I modded mine.. I just jumpered the connection in the fuse box between two poles.. No wire cutting nothing.. Pull the relay out, pop in a wire and bam.. Done..

The only down side is that - the fog light switch won't work..
