i just received a 200 ticket in the mail for doing 66 in a 40. but the funny thing is, is that i was on the highyway. i always do 65mph when im traveling but it seems posted speed limits change often here in maryland, D.C, and VA.
im not from here but i was traveling too Reagon airport to drop my buddy off.
location of ticket: SE/SW FRWy @ 9th ST entrance SE E/B

anyone know where that is? this is my 2nd ticket in 4months. the other one was a bs late redlight. i don't know how people survive around here with all this cameras they must average one a month.again, i don't understand a 40mph freeway?there was no constuction or anything...

so what's the best detector i can get that will notify me off radar cameras,etc? can you guys please share your results with some of the detectors you bought and share real world results. im so pissed right now!

anyone recognize this area and can verify the speed limit?

it seems valentine 1 is a hell of a product but it doesn't seem that user friendly at all.the bel gx65 detector is very user freindly and has voice recognition to determine the band thats trying to trap you.

Let's see... you run a red light, figure you got away with it because nobody pulled you over, get a ticket later, and now you're pissed off? Easy way to solve that - don't run red lights.

The only radar detector that would have helped in that situation is the Escort 9500. It has built-in GPS and a red light camera database to warn you about those intersections.

As far as the speeding ticket... I can't resist... they have large white signs with black numbers along the side of the road that tell you the speed limit (just trying to be helpful) . Almost any decent radar detector will help in that situation because speed cameras use ordinary radar to trigger the camera.

You don't have to run a red light for red light cameras to take your picture. There've been lots of issues with them.

-A lot of times they shorten the yellow light to be shorter than the legal minimum to catch people with a red light camera.
-Red light cameras often catch people who go even an inch past where they're supposed to even if that's perfectly safe. Don't tell me you never do this.

But yeah, the 9500i is the only good way. There are polarized license plate covers that you can get that are supposed to help your license plate be unreadable from above but I don't think they work as well as they are advertised. For laser, just get a good jammer like Laser Pro Park, Laser Intercepter, Antilaser, etc. They are legal. (RADAR jammers are not, though.)

^^yeah i was reading about issues when i was googling. the camera flashes at .4 of a second to catch anyone and that's exactly the time was posted on my last ticket. there has been a lot of sand baggin it seems from va, D.C, md. im going to check out where i broke the law tommorrow so we'll see where the sign say's "blah blah automated camera" cuz i sure didn't see it obviously.

The camera's near my house couldn't take the picture of your license if you're on the white line. If you get caught your either driving to fast to stop in time or just running it. Most these intersection have the crosswalk timer so if you see the number almost to zero slow down to stop.

The car has to be almost completely over the line for the picture to be taken. That line is there for a reason so that you're not in the crosswalk or the intersection. Crossing that line by an inch is illegal to.

TONS of red light cameras DO have the problems mentioned. If those by you don't (I'm not sure I believe you, TBH) then good for you.

I agree. The point of having traffic laws is to protect people, and many things that the police enforce do not at all. Going over the line in an area with no crosswalks cant hurt anyone. In my area, usually there's enough room to be a full car length in front without being in the way of traffic (besides the lines in front of right turn on reds).

I still have never heard of there being speed cameras anywhere around Richmond, Virginia Beach, Fredericksburg, or Roanoke so i'm not sure where you are talking about with va cameras. Do they look at the front license? Most light camera's do so if you have a cover (or remove plate on camaros) they cant identify you, and i've never had any harassment over the cover even when parking next to police.

No I dont support tickets for going a mile over because most cars are 3 MPH off. How long the light has before it turns red is determine on the speed limit. The only problem I could see is if it took your picture when the light was yellow or green. Other than that dont make excuse for breaking the law.

I dont know about everywhere else but the ones around my house just have one camera.

It has been proven that MANY installations of red light cameras have had the yellows shortened to throw drivers off. In fact, some of them have been shortened to be lower than the legal minimum time. All to make a buck.

Besides that, what if a light is messed up and keeps you on red? One time I was coming home from work and I watched a light cycle 3 times without letting me go at all. This was a place that I'd worked for a while so I am 100% positive that I knew the cycle of the light. And I was in a Camaro, not something light, so it wasn't a sensor not being triggered. Did I deserve a ticket for running it when there was absolutely no other traffic around and there was clear visibility so I could be sure of that? I don't think so. A camera would think so.

Cameras don't make decisions. They just screw people over.

I not going to make assumption on all the cameras around the U.S.

If you were on a road with no traffic make a right hand turn on the street that has the green. Then u turn on that road and go which you needed to go. If these companies that own the lights are setting them below legal limits they need to be sued and thrown in jail.

i used to be stationed right outside of DC but traveled in there alot. that seems like its one of the freeways that travel into town, kinda hard to explain but its still considered a freeway/highway but yes speeds drop down to 30-35 in some areas. the only thing wth DC is either find a way to block your tag or something of that nature. they have the rattle cans and plate covers. or just make sure you pay attention to the speed posted. they are Aholes in that area.

I've never heard of no turning right on red. Or you could always turnback the way you came and find another route. I'm not saying you should have to do that but its better than getting a ticket. Next time that happens get out of you car a look at the camera there should be a phone number. Call that number up and bitch them out.
