dash spaekers and door speakers
Thanks
I actually have a very good JBL package upgrade specifically for your vehicle that is a dramatic improvement over the stock system.
You get a 4x6" plate system with adjustable output for the front tweeters which is a small component set which sounds way better then the 4x6" coaxials that would be used generally. You also get a nice set of 6x9" JBL 3-way coaxials that have an adjustable output for the tweeters. Whole JBL system for $219.00 shipping included to the lower 48 states.
Here it is so you can see it:

The front 4x6 speakers are full-range 4-ohm paper cone speakers and the rear 6x9 speakers are what GM called "extended range" - 10-ohm speakers with a slightly better cone and surround. GM's really sophisticated sound system back then consisted of an AM stereo/FM stereo cassette with graphic equalizer.I still have a set out of my old 86 hanging on the garage wall... I don't know why I haven't thrown them out.
Either way they were not very good as usual with most of Delco's early offerings.
You haven't thrown them out because secretly you want to put them in your 2000 Trans Am....!! You want the to bring back tape decks and 6x9"s. JK!!

I remember some of the more upscale GM models of the time came with speakers that had "whizzer cones" - small paper cones in the center that were supposed to increase frequency response and looked somewhat like a coaxially mounted tweeter. I don't remember them ever getting into f-bodies but my 3rd gen experience is limited to mostly 82-87 models. Your 91 may indeed have had something different.
Tried to find some info on my 91 GTA speakers and was unsuccessful. Either way....what the OP has in his 87 ride is what is important here...I got off track. Thanks for the info!!
