Subwoofer Choice

Subwoofer Choice
Hey all, I haven't been on the stereo section of LS1tech for quite some time. A few years ago I purchased a JL Audio 10" sub for my stealth box in the hatch of my Camaro. I'm pushing it with a little 400 watt Rockford amp. The other day my JL completely quit on me. My question is what are you guys putting in these stealth boxes for sub's these days? Anything hit harder than the JL?

Personally, I've never liked the sound of the kickers. Yeah, they're a "loud" woofer, but the sound quality was never to my liking. I agree with ^ pick that up ( check out Kee Audio), throw it in the stealth, and that rockford should push it nicely.
It may help out a little more if you posted what kind of music you listen to and if you're looking for more all out bass, or SQ. And it is a Wed. so most people are probably at work. I'm sure if you give it a day or two you'll have a lot more responses.

Well, I have had a number of subwoofers in the cars I have owned. First, you need to determine a budget and go from there.
Second you have to find a sub that will work well with the space that your stealth box provides, this will have a dramatic effect on the quality of sound that the speaker makes.

Did the SE fit the opening or did you need to widen the opening on your stealth enclosure for it? No one seems to have the hole diameter posted for those enclosures.

I'm using a single type R (DVC, 4ohm) wired down to 2ohm... with a temporary amp(only 160w rms...) and it still hits hard, its in the sub thump passenger size stealthbox. Its a great setup, and should be a helluva lot better once I get my new amp.

I'm running an Orion HP12d2 in a 1.5cfm ported enclosure that sits behind the rear seats in my '00 camaro and I'm pushing 500w rms through it. It sounds good, but I will be selling it and replacing it with an fi BL 12". It is rated to 1kw rms / 89.1db @ 1w/1m / 18mm one-way linear excursion. I will be running 900w rms through it @ 1ohm.
It was between fi car audio and RE audio. I chose fi because they're hand built in Las Vegas as opposed to "Made in China."

I second that question about the RE. Do you have to make the hole diameter bigger in the stealth box? The sub shows it needs a 9.3 cutout. But what the hell is .3 in inches of a foot?

you could do that but the stealth enclosures don't have very much space available. Usually for a sub to work well in an enclosure you are going to want more airspace. Some sub will require up to twice the air space for a ported enclosure.
