Which remote starter do you prefer?
I'm shopping around for a remote starter and I'm trying to get a feel for what's the best one for my T/A. I see a lot of fancy expensvie alarm systems come with a remote starter and those don't really interest me. I just need to be able to start my car from maybe 100ft away tops. Which ones out there do you guys prefer?

How involved would installation be? I would like to do it myself but my I'm a novice at anything electrical. I can follow steps no problem, just not sure if it's something I'll be able to acomplish. Out of those it looks like they are all universal kits, are there any that are more f-body friendly than others as far as installation?

I have an older viper 791xv and it is nice... Although my damn remote quit working recently (had the car in the shop) so I have to get another... I can't really get pissy with the shop seeing as they fixed my busted as transmission for 300 bucks...

Installation is involved and definitely complicated if you aren't familiar with these type of installations. I didn't want to have any bugs by installing it my self so I took it to a shop.
Any decent stereo/alarm should be able to install it for you. Do Not go to best buy for installation.

Installation is pretty tough if you've never done it before, I wouldn't recommend trying it. I've had 3 Autopage remote start / alarm systems and they have all worked great. At my local shop I can get an Autopage remote start, full keyless entry, and alarm done for about 200$ installed. Can't beat it IMO.
If you have the extra cash though, I'd go with Viper for sure.

I am looking for one of these for my wife's 05' Avalanche(I know not an f body)I have "heard" not from anyone reputable, that an aftermarket remote start system can cause problems. I "assume" that's more from installing error than the product itself?
I do just about everything myself but I would take it somewhere to have it done.

I have been installing the Galaxy 5000RS unit for years and they always work great. Very reasonably priced as well. You can get them in button remotes, pager remotes and LCD remotes. I have had all 3.

If installed properly there shouldn't be any problems with having an aftermarket remote start or keyless entry. Sounds like whoever said that just wanted to sound like they knew what they were talking about lol.
