Default Stereo Question--MP3 Player/Ipod capable?

Hey guys,

I don't own an LS1 car, but I do have a stereo out of a 2001 Camaro in my 84 T/A. It basically bolted right in which was kind of neat. I was just wondering if these radios came MP3/Ipod player capable? Maybe a hook up on the back or some aftermarket harness adapter? If not it's cool, but I have always wondered. It would keep me from carrying my case with 150 CD's around at any rate. Thanks!

nope. if you don't want to get a new stereo you can always get that ipod accessory that basically hooks to your ipod and transmits it through your stereo. you have to have your stereo on a certain frequency to pick it up. kinda like at the old drive in movie theaters. it's not the best option, but it would allow you to use you ipod with the factory stereo.

It's not that bad. And if you mess it up, it's only a couple bucks

well, dont know if this would work for you, but I was lucky when I bought my car. It has a factory tape deck, then a 12 disc in the trunk. So, all I have to do is pop in that fake tape thing and I am MP3 ready. Can you find a head unit with a tape player?

There are adapters that plug into the remote CD changer port on the back of the head unit (2000 and newer) to allow connection of auxiliary input devices such as MP3 players or satellite radio. A common one is the GM9-AUX. It produces similar results as the do-it-yourself modification mentioned above but is completely plug and play.

Does the GM9-AUX work on all the camaro cd players 00 and up? I have a non-monsoon unit I'm about to reinstall.

I found this:

Only compatible in vehicles WITH remote CD capability
Requires disconnection of your remote CD, if so equipped
Not compatible if you have a remote cassette

What determines what each unit is and what it can control?

Sorry for the hijack....

Yes, the GM9-AUX and similar adapters will work with both Monsoon and non-Monsoon CD head units from 2000 and newer models. The only difference between a Monsoon and a non-Monsoon HU is the Monsoon label on the front - internally they're all the same.

All f-body cassette head units from all model years support the optional remote CD changer. All 2000 and newer f-body CD head units (as well as some late production 1999 HUs) support the changer.

Thats good info that doesn't appear to be in the sticky.

Actually it is in the first post of the FAQ:
The head unit is nothing special - it's just an ordinary 1.5 DIN Delco radio with a Monsoon label on it. In fact, some of the early Monsoon systems didn't even have the label on the head unit.
