@dragonrage you're wrong my friend. I dug out my optima yellow top instructions and it says verbatim "An Optima is an AGM battery, not a gel battery or regular flooded acid battery." so stop hating bro.. lol.

I had one in a 1982 cj7 that first went through 3 different batteries. The jeep was on offroad beast, 9 inches of lift total with 35" bfg muds. It also had 8 spotlights on it, 5 on a lightbar above the windshield and 3 more plugged into cigarette lighters around the cab. It never had a top on or doors and since I was in high school we would abuse the crap out of it ditching class to offroad almost everyday, as well as "spotlighting" every night. Either way batteries didn't last long (nor did anything else with the frequency of abuse we put on that thing). Finally saved up some lunch money and got an Optima yellow top. Never had a problem again. Couple times we would find the battery flipped on it's side under the hood, but still worked fine. Granted, I used some crappy walmart/autozone/checkers batteries before the Optima, so I can't say Optimas are better then the other quality brands. I'm sure the other quality brands might be good or possibly better, but in my case, Optima did me right. Can't say anything to the people who have had them die on them because it hasn't happen to anyone I know. In fact I have a friend who drove just under 20 miles on his yellow top after the alternator died. Probably could have gone further but he got to his house. That's just under 20 miles of driving at night (lights on) on nothing but the battery. Seemed pretty good to me. He still has the same battery in the car and that happened almost a year ago.
So yes, they rock.

I have had my yellow top for 7 years now with no problems. Has been discharged and recharged probably 100 times. Even now it still works with a 1200 Watts rms regulated stereo system. Just doesn't hold a charge for more than a few days when it's cold. So time to replace it and hopefully get the same performance. Unless their are better batteries out there now. Also need to find the higher amp truck alternator that fits our cars. Anyone know the model number and where I can get one of those?
thanks.
thanks.

I've had an Optima Red top in there since I can remember. (2005 maybe?) Car has gone low from sitting, take it for a ride and it's fine. Fires right up every time. Now the Alt is still bone stock. Gonna have to do something about that this summer.

A red top optima in my firehawk, a red top optima in my WS6, and a red top optima in my 68 plymouth. Have had two of the red tops for about 8 years now and no issues. I have drained my 68 a few times. Put it on the charger and its good to go or I could just stop running out of gas.

Due to my audio system decided to go with a red top a few years ago. One time I forgot the trickle charger and battery crapped out.. So no more for me, reg batteries do just as good. Best upgrade I ever did was add a higher output alternator from a truck..14+ volts now even when cars at stoplight and stereo way up, no lights surging..car doesnt throw codes now, best $100 i spent!

I did a lot of shopping for my 1995 TA when the Walmart MAXX battery died after 8 years. I'm over the side terminal setup and wanted a top terminal one. I found the best deal at Costco for an Interstate Group 58 battery. It fits onto the tray OK and is a little shorter. It has the same or slightly less CCA @ 550 than the original group 75 battery depending on the brand, but the top terminals make it a lot easier to deal with. It was $65 + tax and has a 3 year warranty. Similar Walmart batteries were almost $100. I'm going to make my own cables and try some Fastronix mil-spec terminals (about $7 on Amazon) along with some 1 gauge cable I had leftover from a rear mount battery job a while back.
