Radio shuts off turns back on all the time??

OK quick back round have a aftermarket radio, driving down the road it just shuts off, then turns back on and the windows stop working as well. So i started at the fuse box when its off and nothing, then i figured a loose ground well checked all under the hood (2 on the radiator cross member, and one on each fender well, block ground by the Alternator) i took all the off cleaned them with a wire wheel and sprayed w/ protector. i couldn't seem to find any grounds under the dash. if there is 1 or some and someone knows please let me know. well after all this still happens. switched back to OEM radio does the same thing.

i'm at a loss and wondering if this has happened to anyone else i feel it is a ground issue due to the fact a bump sets it off or hard acceleration or just the car running at a light. any help or ideas would be awsome.

if you have any other questions just ask.

thank you

sounds Body control module related...

or ignition switch/wiring

Brewski4u1 05-08-2012 07:48 PM

mind you nothing else in the car is effected

its your BCM, pop that thing out are re-solder the 5 connections, it takes an hour tops and it works like a charm, happens to most of us

Awesome info. Mine does exactly what the op described. I thought bcm but wasn't sure because I have an after market stereo. Now I know.

I've already got it out and heading for the soldering iron.

I had the same problem , it took me awhile to figure it out . I checked everything ground, replaced the head unit . Looked on here turns out it was the bcm causing it . It takes all of 30 mins to fix.

Mine does the same thing but haven't fixed it yet. I found out to make it turn back on you need to HOLD the window button UP on and while u do that lock and unlock the doors like 2 times and itl turn back on, its weird but it works

BubaGumpShrimp 02-09-2013 03:34 PM

yes all your problems are the bad solder joint in the bcm and not hard to fix at all, just a little pita to get the damn board out.

Yeah, I've always been amazed how doing that will fix broken solder joints. But only if you also curl the toes on your right foot and stick your tongue out the left side of your mouth. ;)

haha, I was doing that little trick for 3 years (car doesn't come out a whole lot, so it wasn't too big of a deal until I just couldn't take it anymore), but the last several times even that wouldn't bring it back

I took out the BCM last weekend and all my solder joints looked good except one, which was brown and cracked. Fixed that one and all is well. I found that I could make the radio cut off just by shaking the BCM before. Took me a while to commit to that fix as I have had two aftermarket Alarms with remote start installed and the wiring was a bit of a mess. Had to fix some shitty wiring practices the installer used first to insure that wasn't the issue.

my stereo shuts off and on as well too. but my windows work fine.
also my lights dim and get brighter and a quick pace. i was thinking alternators getting weak since it takes like 2 mins to kill my batter with the stereo on

my hvac lights also stay off until after the car heats up, then i can flick the hvac panel and it will shut the lights off and sometimes even kick them right back on...

Thank you for giving me the solution to a problem that has been perplexing me all of last summer haha.

Just did this a week ago. Pulled the bcm and found the bottom solder joint of the t shape was brown n cracked. Resoldered n have had zero problems since. My windows even roll up faster now. Thanks guys:)
