Default Remove resistor from key?

Has anyone removed the resistor embedded in the key. I saw it mentioned once in a thread but don't know if anyone else has done it. I'm looking at a used BCM that comes with a key and if I can swap the resistor with the one in my current key that would be great. I'd rather not do a VATS bypass.

I don't think the resistor can be removed without damage and I'm pretty sure that even if you could, it wouldn't go into the other key easily. However, there are only 15 different resistor values (only 14 were used in f-bodies) and most locksmiths will have key blanks matching each of them. Just get a key blank with resistor matching the BCM donor key and have them cut it to match your current key.
