WTF happened to my BCM?

WTF happened to my BCM?
So I am suddenly having the dreaded radio troubles, with my radio shutting off intermittently. I popped out my BCM to fix it, only to find this:
Huh. Weight reduction by the previous owner?
$h!t
Why on earth...
So now I have a feeling I am up the creek without a paddle. What are my options?
Get a new BCM?
Since I was thinking about doing a complete overhaul and eliminating all of the nonessentials such as interior lights, could I go with a digital dash instead(and a different EFI system), and be able to completely bypass it altogether?
If I can bypass it, is there a way to retain my aftermarket sound system?

No. It is not possible to completely remove VATS by programming. The BCM is not programmable so even though you can program the PCM to ignore the lack of a fuel enable signal from the BCM, that doesn't do anything for the starter relay disable in VATS. You would have to physically rewire the starter relay to bypass that and even then you would still have the security light always on in the instrument cluster.
You can install a used BCM but you either have to get the original ignition key (to read the resistor pellet value) or you have to go through the 14 possible resistor values until you find the one that works (actually only 13 since you already have your original key). Then you get a new key cut to match yours but with a resistor pellet that matches VATS. Or you can use the resistors to bypass VATS. Or you could get 13 new ignition keys cut matching your ignition, each with a different resistor value, then try them until you find the one that works (that's not as crazy as it might sound because you can get all of the keys cut for around $20 and it's easier than crawling under the dash to try different resistors).
