Default 1991 AM/FM Casette Deck

Our 1991 Trans Am has the original stereo. The radio portion works fine, but if you slide a cassette in it tries to reverse direction then ejects it. I really want to keep this rare car original and have everything work. Is there something I can check by removing it and looking inside? Is there a shop (preferably in Western Washington) that works on them? Shipping it out is an option, I guess. Thanks.

Usually there is an Oring on a Vband inside that breaks. I've had luck replacing them in the past.

I removed the stereo and, with a lot of work, disassembled it enough to get the cassette deck out. I found a black "O" ring type band about 6" long sticking out of it. So far I can see a way of getting inside to replace it. Have you done this or can suggest where to take it?
