the alpine ipod interface comes with all the necessary hardware (except the HU). the interface itself costs $100 and the HU's start at $200. i would recommend the 9820xm as it has xm radio as well. the interface is very limited with it's search function. and it's not very user friendly. but if you've had an ipod for a while and have tried many ghetto-rigs at an attempt at a clean install, this is more than enough. the conveniences of a constant power source, hidden mounting, not having to remove the ipod upon exiting the vehicle, and controling the ipod (however limited it may be) from the HU, outweigh the cons. 99% of the time, i listen to my ipod on RANDOM anyway. but the 1% of the time you want that one song in your 10000 song collection....forget it. all in all, it's well worth the c-note.

Well, that does sound really cool, but i have something that works very well that cost me 6 dollars. I have an alpine IVA-D300, but this will work with any HU that has an extra AUX thats not being used. For my AUX-1 i pluged in a wire that has white and red in-puts on one end and a head phone jack on the other. I ran this wire through my carpet so that it is not easily seen, and can be easily pluged into my i pod. I can then use the i pod itself to choose what i listen too, and simply unplug and take it with my or put it in the glove box when i leave. It is not 100% CD quality sound BUT its VERY CLOSE. For 6 dollars i can live with music thats 95% quality. PM or email me if you have any questions about how i did this or how you can do it, just let me know, id be glad to help.

Great install, I was getting ready to this and you have sealed the deal for me! IMHO, much better than simply running the signal as an auxillary input...the control of the ipod from the head unit is what I want. Thumbs up to you!
