Default Trouble with Autometer tach

Have an Autometer tach with shiftlite that I've had sitting around for a little bit. Recently replaced it with a Cobalt model. I recently hooked it up and it doesn't seem to be working properly, and curious if anyone might know the culprit. The tach itself works fine. Reads the proper RPM and such. How ever, when I push the red button in order to see where the shift lite is set and/or adjust that setting, the needle swings all the way past 10,000 rpm and hides behind the little panel with the button on it. I've tried adjusting the setting with the other button, but the needle won't move. Let go of the red button and it goes back to reading the rpm's just fine. Any suggestions on what might be wrong with it?
