Where do you guys buy your car stereo equipment?
I was just wondering where most of you guys buy most of your stereo equipment?
Retail stores like big chains or small local shops? Why did you shop here how was your experience?
Online? If so what online stores do you buy from? How was your experience? What do you look for when purchasing car stereo equipment online?

Well, if you know what you want, then I'd go online...ebay, cardomain (110% match garuntee) or somewhere on the web will have something for way less than the store. You may get your items all at different intervals, but with the money you save, it's owrth the wait. I have had no problems. Install is a different story. Weather you will DIY or have a place do it. I wouldn;t recomend retail chains like best buy or circuit city. They suck in that aspect of installing things. As far as online, You have to look for price and shipping costs. If it's ebay, you have to cheak the seller to make sure they are good for their words. Shipping can be expensive, stereo stuff is heavy, so you should insure your items if possible.

yeah just buy the stuff from best buy or circuit city and install it yourself it is really easy just color match the wires on the new plug and plug it in and mount the headunit and your done, its real simple just make sure your connections are good and you got all the wires right. remember the colors with the white line going through them are the positive ones lol.

Partsexpress is best for things like dynamat and carpet, wiring etc.
Crutchfield has excellent service, but thier prices are high. On occaision they have great deals and then it is a no brainer. Also for lower cost head units they include about $40 worth of stuff in a kit/harness/antenna adapter so thier pricing can be deceptively good.
eTronics.com is the cheapest place I've found. I don't think they are authorized on a lot of stuff so it's a bit of a gamble, but on cheaper things thier prices are so low its worth it.
Sounddomain has a 110% price match. If they carry something that is also carried by eTronics, it makes for a killer deal.
Buying things from BB or CC at normal prices is insane. You're paying about 100% too much.

since i install at a shop, i typically buy my stuff direct from vendors.
i do agree that prices at most big box retailers are marked up fairly high, but if you want an extra warranty on products those places are typically the only ones that will offer you one.
i've never shopped online for car audio, but its something ive considered. although i dont think i would ever buy anything from ebay, unless it was super cheap & i could afford to have it crap out on me in a few months. lol, i dunno.. guess i'm just a super skeptic when it comes to online auctions

yeah you have to be real careful with ebay, I got totally screwed by some guy, took me forever to get my 250 bucks back. thats the last time ill ever spend that much money on stereo equipment unless I'm absolutely positive the guy is legit. you can never know the quality of the stuff on there sometimes.

One problem I found with online buying is not knowing whether the part is in stock or not. Don't order from techronics.com. I purchased last years model of a Clarion HU only because they listed it as being in stock. A week after the purchase I was told it's not available anymore. 2 weeks later their website still shows it's in stock even after I bitch them out about it. Buying locally and seeing the product firsthand has its advantages even if paying more sometimes.
