What tells the car the door is open? Where's the switch, button, etc.

Default What tells the car the door is open? Where's the switch, button, etc.

It used to be a long time ago on cars there was a brass button by the door hinges so when the door opened the dome lights would come on. Since my dome lights do not work, the fuses are all good, and I just got the car out of the shop (they were inside the pass. door panel) I thought maybe it was that.

There are no switches so what activates the dome light when the door is open.

BTW - I can turn on the lights in the rear view mirror but the dome lights (rear and mirror) do not come on with the dimmer switch or doors open.

Not there on my car. I have a 98 vert, not that should make any difference.

I've been told its where the door latches. I can see two wires inside the big opening just above the latch on the door. This is where the round safety catch goes into the door.

I have no idea how it works though as there seems to be no moving parts that trigger it.

Show me?
Pass door just the same

Here it is, they moved it inside the door.
You can easily see the plug and barely see the wires in this photo.

isn't it the door trigger in the BCM that tells the car a door is open?
