Default Help me choose 10" sub...

this is going to be a budget set-up... i do not listen to rap... all rock and i dont blast my music, so i dont need something that hits really hard... this sub will be put in subthumps stealth box... i have been thinking either jl audio 10w3v2 or the alpine type-r 10 inch... i believe the jl audio sub is a little more expensive, but would it be worth it?

I voted for what I have currently as well. JL W3V2 D4 x 2. Basically, any good quality sub is going to work fine. We basically all vote for what we use now. I have used Rockford Fosgate HE2's (older model) and HX2 (also older but awesome), JL W3(new and old model), Alpine type E..S..and R, etc. They all work well with the right amp. You have definetly chosen two good subs...just get which ever you can get a better deal on. Both would be an excellent choice. You wouldn't be dissappointed with either one.

Just looking around ebay I've found a W3 for $135.00 shipped and a JL 250/1 Class D amp for $200.00 shipped. That's $335.00 for amp and sub. All you would need is an enclosure and an install kit. Not bad for JL Audio. Alpine...found your 10" Type-R for $100.00 w/free shipping!! WOW...I just found an awesome deal for an amp...Old School Rockford Fosgate 360a2...NEW not refurbed!!! $165.00 shipped. RF amps are way underated and great for hard bass. That would put you at $265.00 sub and amp. Figure $100.00 for a stealth box and $20.00-$30.00 for an install kit you should be good. So for $400.00-$475.00 total..you have a nice set up with quality components.

I vote for elemental designs. I have the 11kv.2 and it's very accurate and clean bass.

JL 10W3V2 or V3.. + JL 250.1 Amp and you're set!

JL Sub and AMP RMS ratings are just... under-rated []

I have TWO 10" JL 10W3V2s for sale that are VERY New and not used for more than 2 months.. $85 plus ship each []

I've used Alpine Type S and R Subs and I think the bass is a bit 'muddy' compared to JLs which has very clear bass..Just a matter of opnion.. But, I love and recommend both Alpine and JL alike!!

Goodluck with whatever you choose...

I have run a IDQ10 and a Alpine Type R and neither of them performed like my current CDT Audio HD1020 does.

Well, what are you looking for? Type R will get louder. . SPL. The JL will sound cleaner ......SQ. Are you looking for a mixture of the two??? Whats your budget? You may be better off going with Diamond, or Crystal subwoofers if your limited. I have also heard GREAT things about Mach audio and they are very competetively priced. I know i am new to this forum but I know my car audio. . . i have the same username on caraudio.com/caraudioforum.com and sounddomain FYI.

totally disagree..the type r will sound more crisp, and the jl will be louder...if you dont "beat" go with type r, if you want it loud, go with JL...and if you want REALLY good sound quality go with infinity kappa perfect, if you want a budget sub that sounds good and gets pretty loud, go with type r...ive had many of all these types of subs...for your application go with a type r and a v12 class D digital alpine amp....these two are like peas in a bucket....and ALWAYS ALWAYS never buy a nice sub...and a cheap A$$ amp....the amp is where the heart of the bass is, crappy amp=crappy sound. you can have a 800 dollar sub and a 100 dollar amp and it will sound crappier than a 100 dollar sub and a 800 dollar amp

Boston Acoustics G2's sound amazing... $180 for a sub, rated at 300 RMS realistically are about 350ish

LMAO. are you kidding me? research your stuff before you speak. Type R's are used for SPL for a reason. . BECAUSE THEY GET LOUD!!! JL is not an SPL brand its a SQL/SQ brand. especially the w3. The w3 driver is tiny compared to the Type R. A JL w3 is rated to handle 300 watts and the Type R is set to handle ATLEAST 500. I know a LOT of people that throw more than 500 to them. People that throw only 350 to them say they get VERY loud. I am new to this forum yes but i have a good knowledge base about car audio. You are a n00b. maybe your just a JL *****. . . I dont know but you cetainly dont know ANYTHING about Type R's. Do you know what the motor of a Type R looks like? Appearantly not! Go ahead and find pics, shoot i'll post pics for you. And whats my proof beside hearing them side by side???? Easy! Caraudio.com/forum .
http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118329
Now you mean to tell me that these people don't know what they are talking about? Because. . . . I personally know and i know its not just me.
JL is high end yes but facts are facts, they dont get louder than a Type R. OH yeah and BTW. . . JL actually owns Infinity so. . . you suggesting it as better than JL for SQ proves how much you know. There are very very very few brands that have equal/better SQ than JL, some of them : Image Dynamics,Boston Acoustics & DLS just to name a few.

all I know is that my Type R couldn't hold a candle to my current CDT Audio HD1020 in terms of SQ. I am running ~900+watts to it. I have it in a pretty small enclosure....a sealed 0.50 ft³ custom fiberglass "stealth" box. I have it STUFFED with poly fill as well to tighten up the bass. I know that this decreases the possible SPL of the sub but I wanted SQ and not a BOOM-BOOM type of system. With the huge cabin gain of our cars, it's not too hard to get decent low bass out of most subs.

course not. . . Type R's are SPL subs and aren't the best sounding. . . hence why I asked what he was looking for. CDT HD line is all SQL based, not SPL.

Type R is noway near a true SPL sub...just look at the FS...its in the low 20s....true SPL subs(MT,DD,X)all like to be tuned higher and sound muddy when going down for the lows but it all depends in the box for any sub.....CDT in a crappy box will not sound better than a Type R in properly built box.....all on the install....but both are excellent choices for SQL...in a nice built box...IMO
