99 GT gets schooled on the way to school Was on the way to a local college in the urban center of town today, where a major interstate begins, so traffic speeds up from 45 to 55 on a long onramp. I'm not a student, actually was on the way to sit as an invited juror for architecture studio presentations.
This kinda thing never happens to me, but on this most perfect of street scenarios (save for quite a bit of traffic) I spot next to me a 99 GT Mustang with an aftermarket performance sticker on its window which I had ran about 1/2 a year ago on this very same stretch of road (a repeat sighting is very rare in this city). Back then my ride was stock and he kept up rather well. At the time I asked him what he was runnin' and he replied "exhaust."
So, I yell across while traffic kept us at 45mph "Hey! I remember you!" and he's like "hey! yeah!" We paced each other until a break cleared ahead of him in his lane. This is when I decide it's go time. I drop to 2nd and lunge past him, pull in front of him and GOOO!!!! He follows pursuit, but I sense that I can totally play with him, so I pull every trick in the book, like slowing down, letting him catch up and dropping the hammer again.
We quickly approach my turn off, so I slow down and give him a thumbs up. He tried asking me something, but I could not decipher what he was saying, just smiled and waved goodbye. To his credit, he never had a clean run opportunity, as I just took off from the beginning, but in this day and age where everyone and their mother is modded and/or spraying I don't believe in giving anyone "the jump," a lead, or a headstart while streetracing, as one gentleman-like gesture could lead to watching tail lights instead of headlights. If you don't go first, it's your job to catch up and pass.
Anyhow, thanks for reading, and of course the above text is a fictional event told in the first person to facilitate the act story telling.

I haven't lost to one yet (and it's been quite a few!). Now, Evilstang, Titty and a few others on this board can whoop me into my place, but so far, it's a shutout.

Re: 99 GT gets schooled on the way to school I agree. Of the really fast stangs, they're few and far between. There's a kid with a 94 5.0, and he had a vortech 6-pounder on it til he ripped his internals the shreds. He was prob the only stang around that coulda kept up with most of us GM guys (me, my buddy with an LT1 with exhaust/intake that ran 13.8, and my other buddy with an 87 v6, completely built, C3 350 motor bored .30 over, hasn't run it yet, but it's real nice)... GM rules in my town

Re: 99 GT gets schooled on the way to school It must be Stang season, 'cause another '99GT with exhuast and "A" pillar guages was next to me in traffic, workin' his exhaust to let me know he was there. I followed him on the circular onramp to the expressway (conveniently on my way to work), and just droppped the hammer, taking off onto the left lane. I saw him in the rear view mirror, making his way to the left lane.
I waited for him, let him get right on my tail, and did a few short throttle burst to let him know it's on.
He wanted no piece of me.
Rule in my book: If you have "A" pillar guages, you've got to play buddy.
