Default 99 bolton z28 vs cammed ls1

So i was out at the local hangout tonight and I got the chance to meet a few new people. I ended up getting to run a cammed ls1. He never told me what year it was. He said it had boltons and a vindicator cam. Ive heard pretty good things about that cam so i said what the hell you should beat me but might as well try I have a 99 z28 with kooks longtubes, off-road y, loudmouth 1 and an ls6 intake. We are both 6 speed cars. So we go and line up at a 40 and his passenger yells it off. We both hit it and i go like a millisecond before him and we are even much to my surprise. I whack 3rd get a little squirly and we are still even and once i hit 4th i pulled like a fender on him. I was so excited that i beat him by a lil. So we turn around and do it again and this time he jumps a lil before me and by 120 he had me by like a fender. All in all it was a great race I never thought i would hang with a cammed ls1. I also raced a bolton gt with 3.73's and a 125 shot and beat him by a car and a half. Ill try and get the video if he posts it up.

Nice runs, man. With both of you being 6-speed cars, driver mod can play a huge part in races where you should clearly win (or clearly lose). With a good tune on that cam, he should have wrecked any bolt-on LS1 out there without issue, so it sounds like you outdrove him which are always the best wins in my mind.

Yeah i def think i drove a lil better than he did lol. Maybe he isnt tuned or something because he should have beaten me pretty badly. What kind of numbers do those cams usually put down? I need a tune also since i put my long tubes on and ls6 intake.

That is a pretty large cam too, and aside from driver mod, he might have had stock gearing, instead of the 4.10s he would need to capitalize on that cam. Good kill.

He did have stock gears. The funny part is that he wanted a very low roll because he said that his car was all low end torque and had no top end power. I figured it would be the other way around

I would say that cam should put down aleast 380 wheel maybe 400 with some really good long tubes and a fast intake.

I figured that to. What so you guys think he is putting down if he isnt tuned to the fullest? It had to be tuned a decently at least because it started right up and idled nicely and it never wanted to stall or anything like that. Im not tuned so he should be putting down more than me thats for sure

Agreed. By what he said, I would put money that he hasn't been on a dyno. If he has, he doesn't know how to read it lol.

If its tuned correctly he should put down close to 400 or more. Right?
