Default Stock GT500 Kill

Hey guys,

I just got my 05 c6 back a week and a half or so. She made 480 to the wheels (HCI and supporting mods). My first LS car and she runs very strong on motor. Last night I was going thru town and happened to run up next to a brand new GT500 (temp tags and all). The guy was a bit older and I figured he would not be interested. I goosed it in 3rd and he dropped in 2nd and took off pretty hard. We stayed close until we got to the nearby highway. We got up to about 50 and we both hit it. I jumped him hard and by the time I hit 3rd was already at least 4 cars out. 3rd is the money gear in this car and it would of been a massacre. He preceeded to slow down and slide over behind me. He did not want anymore. I know a modded Shelby wakes up strong, however I did not even touch my bottle the whole time. Got a little 100shot waiting in the wings.

Good run. A 480rwhp C6 would absolutely MASSACRE a stock GT500. Hell, a stock C6 should beat a GT500 from a roll.

Good kill - I imagine unless hes clueless (and deaf) he should have known you were not stock. It might have been close if you had been.

A stock LS2 C6 traps about 112-113mph and the GT500 will trap 114-115mph stock. So I don't know about a stock LS2 taking a stock GT500.

Both cars are capable of trapping 114-115.

I've seen a stock LS2 run down a GT500 from a roll with ease, driver mod has A LOT to do with it, they are close in stock form.

P.S. good kill, you should look for modded one

Nice kill. He would definetly need a pulley/tune to run with your car (off the bottle).

Good kill. I drove my uncles 09 GT500. In all honesty the car doesn't pull that hard to me. Maybe it's because I have 4:10s. He said they come stock with 3:55s. He just this past monday had 3:73s installed. I guess i'll have to take another ride.

dont the c6s beat the gt500 in the 1/4 more times than not stock for stock?

I agree. I think the gt 500's are sweet looking cars, but seem to be a lot more show then go.....

I'm sure a LS3 C6 will beat the GT500. The LS2 might be a little little more evenly matched.

if this is the case then i would really like to know why nearly everbody on here bashes the gt500...if the ls2 c6 (that is just as expensive) isn't any faster or cheaper.

sure its not fast for 500hp...but if its just as fast as a c6 and cheaper as well then i don't get the bashing. the only thing i see is the corvette handles way better of course...but personally all i do is straight line racing so i could care less. i honestly didn't know that a gt500 was supposed to be as fast as a c6

05 ls2 c6 was 43K

newer 07 gt500 was 41K

GT500 gets bashed because it is a Stang. The biggest problem with them is they weigh almost 4000#'s now. 500 horses stock is great, but the weight kills them. I belive the GT500 is faster in the quarter mile then a stock LS2 C6. The GT500 is actually more expensive then a base C6, but they do pick up 100rwhp with all the bolt ons.

100 rwhp from bolt ons !!

Headers, CAI, cat back, what else ?? Tune. 100 rwhp from bolt ons sounds great. I think I read about a GT500 picking up something sick like 25 rwhp from a CAI because the factory filter was so restrictive. How much do headers add ??

Because the world is not one big strait line. The GT500 can only compete with the Corvette in acceleration, the Corvette can turn, brake, and is built better.
If all you care about is how quick a car is, then spending all that money on a GT500 is a waste, buy a cheapo fox body and do an engine swap.

Yeah, but all you see on this forum is people saying "The GT500 sucks because it's slow," or "The GT500 is slow for the money/horsepower." Because people go off what they read in Motor Trend or what they see a guy run at the local strip. Not by what the cars can actually do in the right hands.

05 base c6 coupe = a little over 43k

and 07 base coupe gt500 = a little under 41K

CAI, headers, exhaust, pulleys and tune wake them up so much.
