Default 00 Formula VS 01 Trans Am

Ive got a buddy who picked up a 01 Trans Am after this deployment and I got my Formula. We have been on a couple of cruises but have never been able to race because we have stuck to around town. Today we got to have a little fun.

His car is lid, borla exhaust and that is it. He is also auto.

Im lid, magnaflow and MGW shifter. Obviously Im manual.

On to the fun part. I wanted to go from a dig also but we didnt have enough time.

We start from around a 25-30 roll with me in 2nd. I let him get the hit and he pulls about a fender ahead. By the time I need to shift to 3rd Im almost a full car length ahead. Slam the car into 3rd and I just pull away from him more. While Im shifting to 4th he is about a two car lengths back. Once In 4th we pretty much stay the same distance from each other. I shut down around 115-120 with me still about 2 cars ahead of him.

This is the first real fun time Ive had since Ive had my car. Im enjoying it more, more and more everytime I got WOT.

Why not? He would've pulled on him up top anyway. No?
Still a good run.

I still think from a dig I would of taken him. We were pretty even all the way up until high 3rd aside from the first jump.

autos are better from a dig unless you got a tire and a gear..he would have had you atleast until the 1/8th but we're getting into bench racing on that note

Yea, I dunno. Its all in the drivers in the race.

He even wanted to go from around 40-45 and I said nah because thats the worst spot for the autos to go WOT from.

Generally speaking I agree, but a good driver in a manual car can beat an auto car from a dig.

Your car is lighter by think a hundred or two and m6 put down more rwhp than auto by like 5%. So would expect you to win by a few lengths.

Course lots of possibilites for error in m6 cars. You can shortshift, hit the limiter, do the 3 to 2..,miss a gear..And these cars sometimes dont' like to shift at high rpm unless you do the drill mod. My 99 sure didn't want to.

That said autos make the best 1/4 mile cars. Very consistent. But six speed manuals are fun. Actually love the new paddle shifted autos..

Anyway sounds like you had some fun.

My car put down 316 HP and 330 TQ when I dynoed it about a month ago.

Ive got the MGW shifter and well misshifts are virtually impossible. The car seems to do fine at high RPMs the first 3-4 runs and then itll stop wanting to shift. I have to let it cool down and itll act normal again.

I do agree with the new autos. They are really fun to drive and I can only imagine how it feels with a stall in them.

Nice kill... from my track experiences the auto guys always shoot ahead of me off the line and around the 1/8th I start to pick up enough steam to pull back ahead. It would have been interesting from a dig I think.

Awesome!! The shifter is awesome. You have to modify the #6 boot to get it to fit over the top part of the shifter. Basically just trim off the nipple part and you can get it over the gold part.
