Default Ran a vortech gt last night

So this guy at my gym just installed a vortech on his 01 gt. He has boltons with a vortech at like 6 or 8 pounds. Its a convertable and its a 5 speed. He just got it tuned and said that it put down 360hp and he wasnt sure about the tq but he knows it was lower than that. I have a 99 z26 m6 with full exhaust, ls6 intake, p&p throttle body and a lid. My car put down 339hp and 342tq untuned. He is on street tires and im on big and littles Just got those put on the other day and love them lol. So he wanted to do a 1st gear run so we line up at a 30 and I honk it off. I hook and put an easy 3-4 cars on him towards the end of my second gear. He was spinning pretty bad. We then do a 2nd gear pull from about 40-45. Both of us are in 2nd gear and I started with my front bumper at his back bumper and I honk it off again. We both go on 3 and I start pulling away pretty hard on him. I shut down midway through 3rd gear and had a solid car on him maybe a lil bit more. The guy is really cool and said that his tuner said that his maf is maxed out and once he gets a new maf that we can run again and see the differance. He just better hope I dont have my cam installed by then lol.

Nice kill......if he max'd out the maf, he is probably on the stocker and shows he dunno what he doin'.

Oh...and skeet, you really should consider doing some dyno pulls to make sure you aren't funning lean man. $125 is cheap insurance if you ask me.

You have a big advantage on him. First, he is a vert which is some extra weight on his end. Second, I don't think this guy knows what he's doing. He probably saw a youtube video with some guy with a vtech on his gt and we off and bought one without thinking.

Good kill.

He sais he has had like 30 dif cars and quite a few faster cars at that. He said that he had an ls1 z28, a vette and a bunch of mustangs lol. When you talk to him he sounds knowledgeable to a point. Some things he sais are true but then there are other things that he sais that are stupid lol. Over all it was a good run with a nice guy.

I was referring to simple runs with a sniffer to double check the A/F. no tuning.

Yeah I got a friend that has an 01 bullitt I believe with a forged bottom end with cams all the supporting mods and a vortech s trim I think it is. He put down a lil over 500whp. He has it going through a t56. His car is pretty nasty also.

Good kill!

My buddy use to have a Vortec 1999 Saleen vert and he always put this dyno sheet on the window at every car show that showed 402 rwhp. I had bolt-on's on my 2002 Z28 at the time and we never ran because he had me by like 60 rwhp on paper. One day we were cruising and there was no one on the road so we lined up a few times for some highway runs (he had his top down and speed cover on, so it wasn't exactly setup for highway racing, lol). I ended up beating him by about a car every run from 40-60mph starts up to 120mph. Afterwards he told me that the 402 rwhp was when he first bought the car and it had a smaller pulley and race gas. He said that on pump gas with the current larger pulley he had no idea what it made, lol. I saw the car at the track with the new owner (who seems like he has no idea how to drive) and it was only running low 13's @ 108mph.

WOW...what an idiot. swapped pulleys and pump gas and didn't change the tune?

^I'm not sure if he swapped it to it's current setup, or the guy that had it before him set it up that way. All I know is that the 402 rwhp was not how the car was driven around normally and he either didn't know what it made with the low boost setup or was too embarrassed to say, lol.

Why do F/I 2v's unless their are fully built never seem to run hard?

From the 2 i have seen and a lot of peoples post. Centri + 2v's = failboat.

With the right setup even a basic blown 2v GT can be pretty mean. It's the guys that run low boost or a bad setup/tune that aren't impressive.

+1.

Maybe I just appreciate the simple things in life too much, but 375+rwhp is still nothing to balk at.
