Dreams and Wishes
Currently I own a beautiful 2001 Performance Red Mustang GT. On looks alone, everytime that I take her out I get compliments. As far as mods go, I have a Mac Cat back; an X Pipe, 4:10 Gears and Summitomo tires. I live in Brooklyn, N.Y.; therefore, I don't usually come across many American Muscle cars. My car is usually driven on the weekends.
A couple of months ago, I was on the highway. It was a bright sunny day. I was feeling good, my car was looking good and sounding loud and throaty when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, this black scary looking car flew by me. It went by so fast that I didn't even recognize what it was. I tried to catch up but couldn't because he was way to fast. Now come on guys lets be honest a GT is a pretty fast car but this SOB completely blew my doors off. A mile or so up, whilst sitting in traffic I saw the black scary car. I was able to pull up next to him and I asked him what he was driving because honestly I didn't recognize it. He laughed and said it's a WS6.
Since then I've been trying to learn as much about the WS6 as possible. I'm confused about something, is there a difference between the LS1 and WS6? If it's such a good car, why is it no longer in production?
Damn, as fast as my car is, that WS6 left a bad taste in my mouth. I WANT TO BUY A WS6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But seriously, I've only seen around 2 or 3 of them in my neck of the woods and I haven't seen any Dealers that are selling them. What I did notice is that they're pretty expensive! Maybe one day, Santa will leave the keys to a 2002 WS6 under my tree. Oh well!

As enthusiastic as you sound about our cars, I hate to break it to ya, your car is slow, that's all. WS6, SS, it's all the same really. Maybe he was modded (like many of us are).
GT's sound nice, but LS1's are in another league baby.
Thanks for your interest!

Everyones perception of a fast car is warped until they ride in a ls1. J/K The ws6 is a trans am with ram air and has other handling options not on a regular trans am. It has the ls1 also.

Oh yeah, WS6 and SS brings a slightly less wheezing cat-back exhaust and some inefficient Ram Air at the hood. Perhaps some suspension also (depending on year).
***seabass beat me to it, sorry for repeating the info.***

The difference is each upgrade (WS6 or Firehawk) is done at a different company. SLP does the Firehawk upgrade and ASC does the WS6 upgrade.
They are no longer in production because GM says they didn't sell well enough.
So to your final answer, the WS6 basically has the same power as a regular Trans Am, Formula, SS or Z28 being they all have the LS1 V8 provided they are a 98' year and up...... but I think the WS6 looks the best.

Whoa, first of all, you've got to understand something. Any 14-second car is not at all "fast". A Mustang GT is not "fast". An LT1 F-Body is not "fast".
It sounds like you don't know much about the GM products... I thought everybody with a Stang at least knew what a WS6 was...? I mean, most of hear know a great deal about Mustangs.
However, like SouthFL said- Mustang GTs are definitely not fast cars, on websites like this, they're considered slow. Your a bit overconfident in your machine... I'm just an LT1, I know the place I hold on an LS1 board.
LS1 is the engine in Corvettes, Firebirds and Camaros. Corvette Z06s have an LS6, which has different heads, cam, and intake manifold. I'll break it down for you, these dates are all 98+:
Firebird/Camaro
- 3.8 Liter 200hp v6
- 5 speed manual, no 6 spd
- basic looks, no body enhancements
Firebird Formula
- 5.7L LS1 V8 rated at 305-310 flywheel hp, more realistically 330-345 flywheel hp, 6 speed trans available.
- looks like a v6
Firebird Trans Am
- same motor as the formula, but with body enhancements. Different frontend and higher wing.
Camaro Z28
- Same as the v6 Camaro, with different emblems, rims and the LS1 v8 and a 6-speed option.
Firebird Trans Am/Formula WS6, and Camaro SS
- formula only had a WS6 option in '98. They have a less-restrictive exhaust, and a ram-air. They're pretty much superficial performance options and perform almost exactly the same as the regular ones. Most people who get them buy them only for the nameplate, and not really for anything else. Plus, the hoods look very cool They also have nicer rims.
This took me a while to write, so I hope it helped, heheh.. sell the stang and get an LS1!!!

im glad that you came here. come on guys, at least he is also willing to learn more about the car and hopefully move to a ls1. they are faster than your stang, a lot faster. but glad that you are now interested into a wonderful platform of a car, that is not in production any more. dont worry, you can find one, but you just need to look a lot harder now to find one. Good Luck!

well, "fast" is a perception. if you ride around all day in a 700hp viper, then even an ls1 is gonna seem slow. fact of the matter is, a mustang with a few mods is quicker than i'd say 95% - 98% of what's on the road (depending on where you live). however on this board, you gotta have a lot more than a mustang with exhaust and gears to be considered fast. hell my stock t/a is slow compared to some of the beasts on here.
you're in the right place to learn about LS1s.
btw you might want to also check out the faq at www.ls1.com, it's got a ton of useful information about the cars and the engine.
used LS1s start around $10 - $12k for ones in decent condition, unless you find one heck of a deal. 98+ cars are the ones you're looking for (97+ for the vettes). i found mine sitting on a carmax lot. ls1s respond even better to mods than mustangs do. good luck jumping ship, you wouldn't be the first. check the sig.

Now come on guys lets be honest a GT is a pretty fast car...
It sounds like you've got your head on straight though since you admire the LS1's. You need to feel a WOT pull in 3rd gear from a low 11 second LS1. It's a MONSTER! It's still slower than me though.

now be fair unit... a stock civic is horribly slow. a neon is horribly slow. a sentra, an escort, an outback, anything isuzu makes, THOSE are horribly slow. a mustang GT is an infentismal step up from those. i mean seroiusly the car runs low 14 second times stock. have we forgotten the 70s and 80s? the idea of an affordable car running 14 seconds flat from the factory was a nearly unheard of idea since around 1972 or so... let alone a car the 13s and even 12s we're seeing out of the very newest from auto manufacturers.
so quickly you guys become jaded.

<== not an LS1 owner
wasn't tryin to give him ****, I just can't stand when people are like "Well, my car is pretty fast." Besides, I typed out a huge template for him of LS1 trims.

well i am a ford owner, look at the sig, but i work on more ls1's than a lot of ls1 owners themselves. prolly not more then the people on this sight, but many ls1 owners i am more knowledgable than they are. i know when to keep my mouth shut, which is an important attribute also. me, Titbar, unit, bob cosby, any other respectable ford guys on this site i am leaving out?? sorry if i didnt include your name!
