BMW M3 killed
I have a graphic on my rear bumper that says "Rice: It's what's for dinner..." Maybe I need to say something about sauerkraut now...
I was on my way home from the dojang, tooling along about 65, nobody in front of me. I see headlights moving up from the traffic behind me, and figure it to be one of the local ricers. Nope. Lovely little black BMW M3. Pulls up along side, slows down to match me and then hammers it. No honks, so he got the jump on me. I had expected honks, so was not too far behind him in mashing the go pedal. He got maybe half a length on me. By 80, I had pulled back his lead. Stayed in it to about 130, by which time I was maybe 3 or 3.5 lengths up on him.
We were catching up to traffic at a light, so I gave him a wave (top was down) and eased into the brakes. He did a ricer (sauerkraut?) flyby, then stood on the brakes to avoid rear ending someone and turned off immediately.
Nice car though, even if the driver was not.

Not bad dude! The new E92 M3 is 3700lbs+ but that new 420hp V8 is a handful. I think it's a solid mid 12 second car - although car bowling alone is almost sacrilege in an M series.

BMW makes nice power, and they're geared for the highway, so the topend screams. But they're not exactly featherweights, which hurts them a lot. And although I can't quote drag coeffecients, I suspect they're not as slippery as an f-body either, which also hurts more at the top end.

Yeah I don't think people realize how much of a performance leap the E92 M3 made over previous models...E30, E36 & E46. The new M3 shaved a full second off it's predecessor's 1/4 mile time. That's ridiculous considering the E46 M3 was a solid mid 13 second car. For my money I'd still take an E36 M3. I almost bought my brother-in-law's '97 Alpine White M3 a few year's back. That thing handled like very few cars I've ever driven and the linear acceleration of BMW's inline-6 is pretty addictive.

i agree your car is slower than the new M3 but your car is definitely faster than most E46 M3 out there, yes they're geared for hwy but there's no replacement for displacement right?

Nice kill! What kind of numbers and track times from your 383? I've only run into one of those E92 M3s but he wouldn't run (at least I don't think he did - I lined up, downshifted, gave a few revs, and then I thought he hit it but I pulled so hard he must have immediately let off). I've run M5s and M6s and a few of the older M3s have tried to run me but it didn't go so well for them.

I work weekends, so I've not had her on an actual track in several years. But the best she's done on street tires is 11.22@124, and on BFG dragradials 10.88@129. Both are traction limited, obviously.
I assume his frustration over his big buck car losing is why he did the ricer flyby and then turned off.
